engine code/information

Hi to all
first things first, just came back from Beaulieu and the VW meet .some amazing vehicles and also cracking people .thanks to all.
had a long conversation with a member about his mk1 GTI beautiful car.thanks for the chat.

now with my son we are renovating the mk1 gti in mars red and its slow work but its nice work, now my question is i have removed the engine and pistons ect and they are in a better condition than i thought they would be.but the engine code is a big question for me as i would like some information  if possible please with regards to the numbers on the block and what they may or may not represent .

Not sure if this helps on the numbers in your photo but the engine code on mine is etched on the block below spark plug 3 from the left under the coolant housing.
You might be able to work it out in the pic.
