Does my golf have a break regulator ?!

Post

I'm buying all new brakes front and back.

To get the correct parts I need to know if the golf has a brake regulator.

Any ideas peeps?

Thanks 👍🏻

Does my golf have a break regulator ?!

Hi I think it should be visible on the rear axle , and if I remember correctly there is  others that are connected to pipe work in master cylinder area. I may be wrong though .Somebody will elaborate I’m sure

Look at this thread, picture of my regulator fitted to the rear brake lines, between the master cylinder and brake lines, the chunky round things…. or early cars have a different set up attached to the rear beam underneath the car. Not sure what will be fitted to your car as mine is a 1988…..

Google image will show you the other type of regulator….

all Cabriolets are KARMANN, that is the company that designed them,

85 could be on the rear axle or on the master cylinder opposite corners.

rear one

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I  don’t have either on my g60’d mk 1 golf , it has a rear disc conversion and g60 brakes up front plus I have the 22m.m master cylinder. It stops on a dime .But the rear wheels lock up first if I jump hard on the brakes and the car fish tails/ wobbles quite a bit. Car was originally a 1.1 and as far as I can remember the regulator wasn’t fitted to the small engine golfs

If no regulator then you need the small rear wheel brake cylinders 14mm.

Cars fitted with a regulator have bigger rear wheel cylinders 17mm

If you look at the pictures you can see 1 is bigger.

I don't have a regulator on my 78 Mk1 Scirocco as long as you fit the right regulator you should not find your self facing the wrong way or worse case in a ditch as the rear wheels have locked up before the fronts!!!

If you are replacing the wheel cylinders it might be worth removing the drums to double check  or check you can return the items ?
