Clutch Cable

Post

which cable?

Hi,
My Mk1 has a MK2 PB engine in it, and the clutch pedal has gone all saggy, and the white plastic ring at the clutch end is all loose (the thread is pretty much fully extended) so I am guessing new cable has to come next.
However - would this be a MK1 cable for the car, or a MK2 cable for the engine?? or does it not matter

Actually, I think the cable is fine - I just thought I would check the arm ( ReleaseArm ) which is also fine, but these two bits fell off the bottom of the cable. I think there is supposed to be a third part which is gone - hence why the cable is all loose DSC_0947.JPG

Yes, very odd. Maybe the rubber perished and fell apart

Yes the rubber can go,,,,, I think I replaced it 3 times in the 20 years that I owned a 81 Diesel Westy Rabbit.

I was wrong, the bulkhead has gone where the cable has gone through. I have a repair plate on the way - question is, is this as bad as it gets or is there a risk I end up stranded on the M25 over the next few days?

The bulkhead going is a common problem, was never designed to have a clutch cable that side. a repair plate should sort you out, used to be stick on but I prefer to put some weld around it..

My 1990 cabby had the bulkhead repair plate done when i got it.
Reversing into a car park space and a bit thump and clutch pedal hit the floor.
After a tow home inspection showed a broken cable at the pedal end, loose repair plate, and split/perished rubber block on the release arm.
New cable, rubber block, and refitting of the repair plate made such a difference. 👍 20171125_154156.jpg
