Ok I have a mk1 gti cab 1983 it's got a spot light build gone . How do i change it…??    I have looked at the back of unit and there is a bolt with nut on it tried undoing that and that does nothing . It looks like a sealed unit..?? IMG_5552.JPG IMG_5553.JPG

Def not the standard 'Hella' spots/fogs. Looks like a spurious one made to fit? Love the taped up wires and no grommets going through the metal cover.

Remove the nut and see what's inside.

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thanks for that . I have undone nut and it's a holding bracket that holds the light in place like a cup and ball both outer  and inner are plastic .. I have seen the red tape and there is more that needs to be sorted…. I have only had the car since the weekend

That's a 'Carello' grille, quite rare and a genuine 80's accessory… might even pre-date the Hella double light grille?

The bolt / washer affair at the back looks crude but it's original… loosening it allows you to move the inner, sealed unit around to set the aim, like an eye in a socket.

As you've found out taking it off altogether lets you change the bulb.

Might be a crock, but I recall reading that the lamps sit further forward creating more space between the grille and the radiator making it a popular choice for cars with aircon.

Nice thing.
