Cambelt & timing marks

Move it one tooth?

Hi folks,

fitted my new cam belt, and manually turned the engine over a few times after tensioning it - as standard.

Timing mark now looks to be maybe 1/2 to one tooth of depending on where you think the measure should be taken from.
This is how it currently looks:

Bottom pulley is at the correct position:

You can see from the first photo that if I moved it round then it would be pretty much in line with the top of the head casting - not the cam cover. Hyanes manual indicates it should it should be in line with the cam cover.
I guess that when the belt is tensioned it will rotate the cam sprocket counter-clockwise which is probably why it's moved.

What do we think? Move it forward one tooth, or leave it where it is…?

Move it, that is if the 0 tdc mark is correct and the dizzy rotor is still centered in the hash stamp, then back it off and re-adjust it to be even with the plane of the head.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

My opinion for what it's worth has now changed, I would move it as Brian said.

I'd say you're a tooth out there too, best to change it.  I had the same when I tensioned the belt, spent a bit of time making sure it was right.

Thanks chaps,

I'll have a mess with it and get it right. Easier to do it before I put the engine in.
