Cabriolet Roof Part Questions

Post

Evening all.

I've taken my roof to refurb and lost some bits…

Could anyone tell me part numbers or send me links for the following:
  • The retainer straps for the bars which position them when the roof is up…
  • The screws for the metal peices that hold the fabric to the frame and have rubber seal inserts
  • The plastic screw inserts for the main frame
I think that's it for the time being…. ;)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Oz.

The screw for the bit of metal with the rubber seal insert are not special VW screws so you can use what ever you have, mine were rusted away so I replace them with some stainless self tapping screws as they had a flat head and was the right length.

I got the plastic inserts for the screws from a VW dealer a couple of years ago for not much money. Give your local dealer a call.

Your are an absolute hero!

Do you know anything about the retaining straps as they're not on the diagram? They look like white nylon packing straps, but more rubbery.

Thanks.

Have a search on the website, not sure what year car and type of roof you have.

The Question that I have are the Straps in question the
Rubber ones at the rear that are attached to the Rear windows or are they the Vinyl ones that the rubber straps tie to, or the Vinyl straps that hold the bars at the front to pull the Bars forward?

Oil all the pivot points.

The Screw Holders for the Seal trays I can get locally at a Hardware store that sells to the Automotive Shops here locally, they can also get me the ones that hold the
Waist Trims with the itty-bitty washer.  I usually go back with Stainless Steel Screws as they don't rust later on.

Be sure that you put new foam on the Back of the trays, and the very front tray uses a Round one at the lead that the front seal tray screws in to.  Also make sure that you  place the trays to the outside as they are slotted, and that way you get proper alignment of the tray to the glass.

It's the vinyl that goes into the rubber straps… This info is life saving! Do you know what it is?

What's the tray and the foam? I've no idea on this!

Who knew a simple post would impart such knowledge!?

You can use nylon webbing that you can purchase at a Sewing center, or an old cargo strap.  The vinyl is similar to what they used years ago in lawn chairs, but webbing will work as well.

Same for the front ones if one breaks or you cut them instead of removing the bar to slide them off.

Thanks very much. The roof is looking good so far.

Actually. I'm looking for the metal peice that the rubber seal slots into on the roof on the left hand side above the door window?

Those are called seal trays or insert trays.

You need to get familiar with the ETKA.
