hi, I have located the aux air valve but need to take it out and test due to poor cold idle, do I have to remove the inlet manifold or can I get it off easily? looks like a mare .thanks

It's possible without removing the inlet manifold but all depends on if you can get the bolts undone….
Undo the clips for the hoses, I found it easier to undo some of the hoses further down the line as access is easier on some and when you remove the AAV take the AAV and hose complete, there is 2 allen key bolts holding the AAV to the inlet manifold, you might need some different lengths and heights of allen key to get the right size to fit between the AAV and stuff around it.
I took mine of just before Xmas to clean it out with some carb cleaner..

No it was clean inside but I did clean in out when I had the engine out 3 years ago.
My problem was low tickover when cold, I've just increased the idle speed to 1000 rpm when hot which has helped over these winter months, with headlights, blowers etc running I'll wait till it's warmer and light outside before I start l messing again…

The idle screw is at the back of the throttle body, you need a 7mm spanner to adjust it. It's a common problem for the little rubber O ring on the idle screw to go hard and flat over time and the screw can work it self lose or let air in. Try increasing the idle and see if it drops again over time.
If you increase the idle speed to approx 1200 rpm, give the throttle a blip to check its staying at that speed then lower the idle back down to 1000 rpm and only adjust the idle speed once the car is nice and warm. It gets hot behind the throttle body so be carful.
