Any Guides on here to remove a Late cabby Dash

Post

hello there..  I am aware how to get the  canter console, fascia and the clocks out but is there a guide on here to actually get the entire  dash out?

Does the knee bar need to be unbolted and removed first? also assuming the heater vents need to be unclipped somehow

trying to give myself unrestricted (easy access) to look for leaks/ check  bulkhead grommets and also tidy up some shoddy wiring
carpets/underlay and bulkhead sound deadening all out at the moment

Thanks
Tony

knee bar on less than 90 cabby remove the ash tray there are 2 nuts 13mm and 2 13mm bolts on the A pillar that hold it up, if yours is virgin, there there are 4 phillips screws holding it to the dash that you may have to remove.

To remove the upper dash see my Cold hands whistleing vents on the safe removal of the center and the side vents.

Might as well repair the foam while they are out.

www.cabby-info.com has a good how to remove the dash…

Take caren don't get jiggy…. On the 4-way hazard switch there are 2 bare wires, and they will short out, so either take the earth off the battery, or you will be replacing fuse f2 or 4, and f19 as your turns will only glow the light.

Take the time to use a piece of heat shrink over the spad and you will never have this happen again.

The black and blue and Brown are the wires I am referring to.

I have a few how do I fix a broken Fascia

Take your time……

I usually have to use a flat blade to pry the heater blower switch from the connector.

As you have the thing all apart it wouldn't be a bad time to replace the ignition switch….

Watch your hands too - that crash bar can be really sharp on the edges in places.

After my 2nd set of stitches working on cars, the last one on my Rabbit Diesel parking brake cable broke…. the VW store gave me the wrong cable… So I had to cut it on the car… and well hacksaw to the knuckle of my thumb, I knew it was going to happen, but I was 700 miles from my good tools, and I said "this it going to hurt."  This was in 94….

I came up with the Red Badge of ownership with Stitch cluster… (Butterflys count too.)

I wish you luck taking it out and hope that the dash comes freely from the wind screen clip points. Mine was too far gone to replace on them. Just as everyone says take your time.check that all screws are out. And will come out free. And yes it's good time to replace or even lengthen some cables for ease of access and repair in future.  Keep all your screws as for some reason they will all be wrong ones and correct new won't fit olfactory holes. See marks store classic vw for self tapping screws he's got selection for reason

These areas hold a tight clip that stop dash flapping under the window. If I've mine you've had water ingress constant evaporation and  condensation weakens dash in that area

Naw, that ain't the reason,,,, It's untreated Cardboard, wrapped in vinyl….then pressed in a oven by magic elves.

Use the Drywall tape (nylon woven kind not paper) JB-WELD and or plastic wire ties to strengthen it. I did on one that tore…. Worked really good, also tightening the clips works well also.

If you look really close at the edge you can see one of the clips that came loose of the windscreen clip.

Yes it is a LHD Virgin Dash from a One Owner car I bought as salvage… No Cracks… Just right, no it isn't for sale.
