1.8 cabby distributor vacuum

Post

Can anyone help me locate where this vacuum hose goes to. It comes off my distributor and I have lost the other end of it. The car is running extremely lumpy with this hose off.

On another note can anybody tell me what this sensor is on the carb. I noticed I is broken while looking for the other vacuum pipe.

See your pipe coming out of the brake servo, on the end is a yellow  1 way check valve… is there an open nipple on there that your vac pipe can run too?

The thing on the carb I don't know.

There is a hole right next to the yellow bit but I don't think I'd be able to attach a hose to it. The pipe coming off the distributor isn't long enough to reach that valve there was another pipe joining to it.

I think you were right about the pipe being next to the valve but I think it's snapped off. Can any one tell me what that pipe is or where to get it as I think I need a new one

CIS and Digi vac diagrams can be seen at www.cabby-info.com

If you have any vacuum ports avail, you can run a new one, you will need hard lines, hardware stores work well for that as the lines to attach water lines to icemakers.

Depending on the year it was usually attached to an upshift light.

at the top of the vavle cover is an open vac line, and any vac loss will cause the car to act really weird. and you can connect the dizzy there if you run the line.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

a diagram of the vac lines should be stuck on the bonnet

Briano, in the uk we dont have hardware stores that stock parts for icemakers, in fact we dont really have hardware stores, we have ice trays that you put in the freezer.

the valve is called a non return valve

or this one is £460 cheaper

Some of the running problems could be the old and odd HT leads and the dissy cap looks like it's from the Titanic.

Get some new Breu or Bosch HT leads, dissy cap and rotor arm, I change mine every 2 years/20,000 miles.

Some new rubber braided vacuum hose should also help as yours looks rather frayed.

Try VW for the non return valve, it should come as the complete pipe.

Another idea which may work is block up the broken bit and if you can take the cover off the other outlet and see if you can fit the hose onto that one?

The bit on the carb is the fuel shut off solenoid, mine also has a bent at the connection, it looks like you have a wire going to it?

Thanks for all the help. I'm putting together a shopping list now for all the bits.

Yes there is a wire connected to the bit on my carb. It's not bent tho it's completly broken off.  :'(

Just in the process of ordering service parts. What happens if i order bigger diameter ht leads. The original leads are 7mm but i am looking at 8mm coloured leads, will this make a difference?

Not sure what difference the size makes, you have a bog standard engine with a carburettor not a highly tuned modded engine so I don’t think you will notice any difference in performance getting performance ht leads, they will just cost you more money.

Set of HT I use and recommend.

These will fit if you have the dissy cap with the pin style connection for the HT leads.

the bit thats broken on the front is the carb heater, ideally fix that the weber carb isnt usually very happy without it.

if your non-return valve nipples are all bust you can block them up with screws and sealant and instead put a T piece on the vacuum connection round the back of the carb. this nipple is for the warm air flap in the airbox in case you were wondering.
