Keeps conking out

Hi. 
I've read most of the carb posts and done most of the things recommended, to no joy!

Car starts, car runs. When it gets to temp it stalls. It's an automatic, when you put it in gear the Revs dip, sometimes stalling. If it does not stall then the second you try to accelerate away, it stalls. 

I've had a new water pump, points, HT, plugs, vapour thing. 

Is it a fuel issue? Carb issue or something else? Our local garage (one man band) has had car nigh on two months and is scratching his head. Is there a specialist in the wrexham/Chester area. Or someone mobile willing to travel to CH7.

It's a 1990 auto 1.8 cabriolet

Hi Tony sorry to hear about your troubles I have a 1990 1.8 cabriolet automatic do you have the pierburg 2e2 on .? Or a replacement carb ? Regards Dean

Hi Dean. No idea is the short answer. I have attached some engine bay photos, not half as tidy as yours!

Yes you do Tony have you  changed the fuel filter etc ?

Has the mechanic checked the swirl pot at the front of the rocker cover to see if fuel is flowing out of it also at what rpm is it ticking over ? If it's too low it will bog a bit when you set off .if you pull it out of gear back into neutral or park do the rpms go higher again ?

All filters changed. Tick over is about 900rpm. Is the swirl pot the vapour separator? If so I put a new one on.

Ok 900rpm is good yes the swirlpot is the vapour separator on your engine bay photos it doesent look new mate ?

No, it's not in that photo. I got a shiny new one from VW heritage. Also placed a temp petrol cap on in case it's the overflow blocked but still cuts out. Your welcome to come and take a prod and poke at it, coffee and tunnock cake supplies.

Ah I see the story with mine was Tony I had the original pierburg 2e2 on had nothing but problems with it I fitted a new meyle mechanical fuel pump then the fuel was going through the vapour separator and back down the return line to the fuel tank faster than the carb could use it .so fuel starvation…so it was cutting out under acceleration and basically running bad .came home on the back of a recovery truck twice sent it to a rolling road tuner who used to work for dub sport proper skilled guy .he said it wasn't pulling the right amount of vacuum .so to be honest id had enough of the rough running issues by the…so I bit the bullet and bought a brand new Weber 32/34 dtml fitted it myself on the existing manifold with an adapter plate …never looked back it's like night and day .back to manual choke which I dont mind and it's super simple and more powerful at low down revs .theres no return line on it so I could do away with the swirl pot and return line which as i said caused me nothing but problems .and unfortunately mate I'm near bury so a little far to travel to see you .even though the tunnocks teacakes sound awesome
