Am struggling to think of how a mk1 is ever an investment, lol

If you're after creating mintness from mongness then prob better getting the shell with good panels. I don't think anyone would argue with me if was to say get whatever had the best shell  :)

Tis all good of course  8)

Woundent  mind 1 of them bein mint as a bit of a car to use in the summer months of the weathers ever good and to go to shows in, but i also want to build track car…. may be i'll just buy all of them and start a collection, 3 cars are better than 1 and being a vw mechanic maintaining them wont be a problem….. have to see how far i can stretch my cash!!

To my mind if you are going to lavish a lot of cash and time on one, it sounds like the early small light shell and spares would be the one to go for.

As Manic says its a labour of love and no-one is going to get rich out of doing up a Mk1, however I think the small light early models are a lot rarer, so it bodes better for value in the future as well as giving you something a bit special.

Yes, financially and for a track car you have to go for the best shell. It is also worth making sure you can get hold of the original parts as this will give value to the car. Even if you build a track car, you can put the standard parts back to sell it on.

Decided on buying the 78 shell with loads of spares,1 on e-bay went for to much. Should pick it up this week and get my mate to finish the prep work before i spray it and start getting it back to gether hopefully before the summer arrives.....if it arrives.
