whats the crack with vehicle wrapping?
now im a paint sprayer, so i understand all about paintwork, but i know nothing about this wrapping,
what i wana know is,, how long does the wrapping last on average…..
and what happend to the paint work underneath, once the wrap has come off? simply remove the glur residue and polish back up???
any answers would be cool, thanks

wrapping is safe to do as long as the right vinyl/print vinyl is used. If a company uses a cheap one it will shink over time and the glue is harder to get off. A good wrap should last for years. The vinyl can have a ten year life span, but if its a full colur print on it the ink will slowly fade over time. If its a full wrap then the paint work is all covered and you dont get any colour difference if you remove. I did a full wrap on electric blue vw camper which was used on x factor and stripped it two months later with no issues.
hope this helps

Yeah I completely agree that good quality vinyl vehicle wraps should last for years but the thing here to be noted is quality of wraps. The cheaper ones are not going to last longer and at the same time all the glue would be hard to peel off.

Speaking personally, I wouldn't touch that idea with a ten foot barge pole!
Over here it's been all the rage for the past few years.
Everything from cheap to high end quality jobs done on cars like Audi R8's, Porky's and even a Lamborghini.
Look superb when first done but when you see them 3 or 4 years later, oh dear. I know a guy with an R8's has just spent a small fortune having it removed and a full paint job! 😕
If someone is desperate to do it the Mk1 is not a good choice because you need a bodywork with really smooth lines and not creases like ours. For example it might work well on my Mk6 but maybe not so good on a Mk7.
It's just my opinion for what it is worth. 🤔 👍🏼

I though about wrapping my cabby as it needs a new paint job but I just can't bring myself to wrap it, just seems wrong on a mk1 golf.
Not the same as having a nice new paint job shining on a classic car
From what I have heard if you use gloss vinyl it looks like it has orange peel

I like that if it was cheap it would be fun for a year and then remove back the shiny paint but I guess it is not cheap.mark1gls said
