What cars have you seen off?

I'm not condoning racing or promoting a boy racer attitude in any way, though as Gti owners, we know our little cars are pretty nippy, and have the odd dabble every now and again.
Since I have finished my car (On the road over a year now) nobody has wanted to see what it's made of!?!?

…until today. On the way into work this morning, I was behind a Vectra 2.5 V6 who tried to leave me standing as we came off a roundabout. It was only a short dash, but needless to say, I kept up no problem. If it had been a long stretch, then he probably would have got the better of me after about 80+

So what other cars can our 22+ year old beauts keep at bay?

what's the official (and tested) performance times for the GTI? 1.6 and 1.8 (although don't think they'll be much between the 2)

If I'm correct that it's 8.5 seconds 0-60 then it should pull away from the fiesta zetec-s at least

Not at Gti standard obviously, but I kept up with a man in a mid 90'sTurbo Diesel Escort who was clearly trying to see me off pulling away from a junction into a 60 limit (his rear end was dipping and he gave me a nice smoke display!) So not bad for a non-injection old diesel? The lack of weight really does give them the edge, even with a small engine - even a mates Astra 1.7 DTI had a concerningly close 0-60 time as mine! GTi next though!

Woah Woah………………..Stop right there!

Just a friendly warning before any one starts bragging what speeds you have done and your racing stories……………

My friend is a member of the Megane Coupe Club forum……

He was telling me that a girl on there was boasting what speed she has had out of her car……………… someone dobbed her in and she was taken to court and punished accordingly.

I'll see if he can fwd the link over to me when he gets back off his hols.

Just a thought to bare in mind!

I used to own a mk1 - well I've had 2 actually - YDU 720X & SMU 420Y. Currently I drive an 98 Scotia White Mitsubishi Evolution V RS…. fancy getting another mk1 someday :D

Nobody has mentioned anything about breaking speed limits….

I didn't necessarily mean on the road - could be on a track day or a 1/4 mile strip, whatever.

There are a lot of new, supposedly quick cars around now but with their weight disadvantage, the good old Mk1 Gti can probably out accelerate most of them!

Bit difficult to out run anyone when its in kit form although i'm pretty sure i did a snail when i was pushing it onto the trailer. My best memory is of beating a vauxhall fontera off the lights - not that great you say but i was in my splitty !.

Racing is life . Anything before or after is just waiting - Steve McQueen

kins you are going down for that:)
they seem to be able to shrug a lot of bigger cars off on the corners especially with some decent suspension and good tyres, cant be bad for something designed so many years back
