Roll on December 21st!

Hi all!

December 21st. Can't wait.

Have been disqualified from driving today.

Got caught speeding on my Honda Hornet in March and finally came to court.

I only had the bike for 6 weeks afterwards as an MG-TF decided to do an unannounced u-turn into my path. However the bike was written off and that money paid for my Campaign! :)

Back to March. It was midnight. It was a clear night, but not clear enough to spot the policeman hiding behind a lampost down the road!

He wasn't impressed with me doing 61mph in a 30mph zone! Neither was the magistrate today.

Have been banned for 42 days (6 weeks to save you calculating!) and fined ?250 (plus ?35 costs).

Could of been worse as I have 6 points on my licence already (2x 3, both speeding!).

Have I been lucky or should I feel hard done by?

Be interested to find out the general feeling.

December 21st. Can't wait.

My life is an endless battle against maturity.

I think you got off lightly to be honest. Make sure you take a bit of time to reflect on that .. and be a bit more sensible next time!

Cheers,

Drew.

Ian,

I'd say you were very lucky to get off with just a 6 week ban - twice the speed limit in a built up area is an automatic ban anyway as far as I am aware (as is 100+ on the motorway unless you are very lucky / royalty   ).

Just remember you don't need to break the limit to have fun

Must be a PITA not being able to drive though - I'd find it torture. Sounds like you were lucky to get away without too many injuries after the MGTF incident…. I have to say I always liked the idea of a bike, but no matter how good a biker you are there is always some numbnuts in a car that can take you out

Sounds like you have a good few weeks to get that Campaign pristine for hitting the road again though  8)

Cheers,

Chris

OLG - Judgement is fair I think - I'm sure your ban would have been a lot longer if it was dirung daylight hours - but I guess you'd be doing less than 30 then anyway

I think I have been lucky.

The magistrate did say she was contemplating giving me 6 points which would have given me an automatic 6 month ban for "totting up" 12 points within 3 years.

I thought double the speed limit was an automatic ban but maybe not?

A friend was given 5 points and a ?500 fine for 102mph in a 70mph zone which shows it is magistrates discretion.

It is true I would never have been going that fast during the day. What? Honestly!!

Bikes are different anyway. On a track (honestly!) my lowly 600cc would do 65mph in 1st gear, with 5 more gears to go, and top out at about 140mph.

Cycling the 9 miles each way to and from work today have given me time to reflect on not driving.

Also the inconveinences of not being able to pop out on a whim in the Campaign for a quick drive. :(

Plus plans to collect my girlfriend from Liverpool University at Christmas are shot to pieces.

Only myself to blame I know!

Hate it when there's no one else to blame! :x

I just saw this happen a few hours ago on the M25 coming home. Bike skidded along the floor just near me as a car or two back took him down. Very frightening, I hope the biker makes it  :(

Here, here!!

From personal experience I would say every driver should be made to drive a panelled off van and some type of motorcycle.

Firstly the lack of a rear view mirror in the van forces you to use your side mirrors and you become so much more aware of what's happening around you on the road.

Secondly riding a bike, especially filtering through rush hour traffic, makes you appreciate how f***ing scary it is when someone blindly cuts you up, u-turns into your path or wanders from lane to lane towards you. Even if you're lucky enough not to get knocked off.

You use your mirrors 100% more after riding a bike.

It is true no matter how good a rider you are there is always a car driver's mistake that happens too quick to avoid.

I'm not saying bikers are never at fault. I've seen several accidents caused by inconsiderate riding and also when people just go beyond their limits with no one else involved.

The sense of freedom can never be replicated in a car but I've found in my Campaign that car driving, within legal limits, can be great fun too.
