Mk4 Golf R32- opinions?
I'm considering a Mk4 Golf R32 and wondered if anyone has any experience of this model. From some web research it would appear that 2 areas of concern are-
1. Chassis rigidity- this is an issue with the Mk4, however I'm interested to know whether this is easily remedied with upper/lower strut braces.
2. Flat spots- I'm assuming a remap sorts this.
Anyone know of any other issues, pointers please?
Many thanks,
Meenrod

Consider the V6 4motion as an alternative as it's almost (but not quite) the same car, after a re-map it'll perform somewhere near an R32 and it doesn't have all the body kit so you won't be worried about parking it up and it going missing.
The Haldex re-map is highly recommended.

Haldex remap? The haldex unti has an ECU- I thought it was mechanical?
Nope, it's computer controled. As standard on the V6 4motion and the Audi TT 225 they only send at most something like 15% of the power to the rear wheels (so to make the cars understeer which is apparently "safe"), after a re-map they'll send 50% (or whatever you've set) of the power to the rear in the event the front looses traction.
Have a look at;

My mate did one on a Mk4 V6 4motion and it transformed the cars handling. Very worthwhile modification.

So Haldex remap, upper/lower strut braces/ remap (possibly) and replacement of 'boomy' standard exhaust… that should keep my wallet light for a while! Anything else?

Not so great for current owners who bought from new.
My boss had a MK4 R32 and i must admit it was fantastic to drive, sticks to the road so well and it was quick. Lovely motor.

I believe there was some crazy 3rd party tuning firm that used to sell a 370bhp conversion for them.

No violence required- I've owned a few Alfas and my daily driver is an Alfa (see sig) and I've had and sold a 147 GTA- looking for something more substantial- great drive but a bit tinny. Anyway you're not a true petrolhead until you've had an Alfa! (Can't wait to see the stir that comment causes…)
I don't like the Mk5, so it has to be a Mk4 R32.
