Mk1 cab off the road!

Sorry to say this guys but i had to take the mk1 off the road today  :banghead: , variuos things need rebuilding on her and my aim is to give her an extra 120hp on top of the 180 she`s got already!  I`ll be happy to show her off once thats done!

Good news is that ive gone got myself an Audi S2 for a runabout  :D

forgive me for being a bore but isn't 300bhp a bit too much out of a front wheel drive car? dont get me wrong as a friend of mine has a mk1 tin top with a 20v T which pumps out over 250 bhp and is balastic ( and heeps of fun) but has a real grip issue and you cant floor it in the first 3 gear otherwise you need two new tyres.

he spent more than the cost of my impreza on the engine and mods to get it there and my scooby is still quicker over the quarter mile.

 :dontknow:

Agree with MrGTI, sounds like hell of a lot through two front wheels 8O - don't forget only worth having more power if you can use it. If you're going to the effort of finding all that extra power I'd also look at installing some mk2 syncro 4 wheel drive running gear - though not cheap or easy.

Good luck :)

Your kidding right???

Mk2 Syncros go on ebay for a couple of hundred quid!!
Ben Leech's Mk1 syncro was done without even changing the centre tunnel.
The rear subframe also mounts in almost the same place as the standard rear axle! He only added a small bulge into the boot floor too, instead of removing and raising the whole thing!

This was originaly what I had planned for my car, though the shell is too tidy to start hacking up!

Ok sounds like not that expensive, but not exactly a weekend job is it :? ? Read about a red mk1 GTI (might be the guy you mentioned?) which had such conversion, seemed to imply fitting running gear wasn't simply bolt-on and needed a bit of fettling - sure be worth the work whatever though :D .

Yeah - It's not a simple swap job - you do need to do a bit of fettling.
That is the easy bit though - It's sorting out dodgy fueling that is the hard bit!!!!

The S2

well the S2 seems to be all good apart from the fuel comsumption, its a bit firsty if you use the power!

As for the 300hp i want in the mk1 cab, a Quiffe ATB diff will definately help the traction problem, With 180hp/198ft lb of torque i had wheel spin at castle combe in 5th in the wet but that was with a standard diff, getting both wheels to pull the car makes a difference but till i get her back on the road who knows?? I have to be very good with the throttle! The mk1 is highly modified already enough to handle some more power and as i never got what i wanted when i first put the motor in its time i did.

Subawho??? is that one of those blue things with gold wheels?? and a foam dog that sits in the front guarding it at shows??  :D Sorry Mrgti but i left my mate in a 200sx nissan battling on a dual carrigde way whilst i watched in the rear view mirror!  8) not sure about a standing start though. sound fun!!

The 4 wheel drive thing sounds great but i`m not having no rallye hubs on my car! Ive seen the rear subframes break under hard cornering which puts me off a little! Audi 4x4 running gear appeals to me thou! made for a heavier car that!! still lots of work!   :(

  no its silver and no gold wheels in sight and as for a cartoon foam dog well not my kinda thing……To give you some boring stats its a type RA which is the light weight version with an STI engine last year with a proven 283bhp it ran a 13.83 sec quarter mile at santa pod and at another sprint event managed a 0-60 time of 4.6 sec and a quarter mile in 13.68 sec.

i not knocking your car in any way and good luck to you if/when you get it done, we all have a diiferent out look on how we do things and for me i would rather buy something designed and built for that kinda power

I also wanted something thats built to have that kinda power, thats why i went and bought an S2, thr RS2 was a little over my budget at the moment as i want to spend some on the mk1, the mk1 is just a toy but it dont half shock these so called super chariots like massaratti`s and DB7`s.

No mate - As per my PM, I would love to do it at some point though...Maybe not this car as the shell is really good (never had anything replaced or welded due to rust!!!)
