Started on ebay some months ago for ?10K!! Look closer - overspray in some areas, looks like scuttle area not re-painted. Also, oddly large gap between top of grille and front edge of bonnet!

Overall , IMO this car is not right!

Don't think those speakers in the front door are standard?!?! Plus no window winder on that door either…

Or a parel shelf - could just have taken this out for the photo I guess.

10k for this? Even in my inexperienced opinion this seems a bit steep  :)

has it never reached reserve in past?

It's not a bad car IMO, but he'd get more interest, and less scepticism, if he finished it properly (GTI seats, window winders, parcel shelf, etc)

It was never worth ?10k, but with the details done, there are plenty of people who'd like the look of a series one, but with the 1.8/5 speed niceties of the '82/'83 models.

If the details were done, and there *really* was no rust, I'd say it would be a nice buy for a realistic price (something over ?2k)

The bonnet-gap may look bigger than it is due to the nature of pixel interpolation in the jpg or something, but that's the danger of buying a whole car on eBay (should have paid the extra for the "large pictures" option)

the number plate rings some bells with me. Is this the one that was in a magazine that was being used for strip racing at one stage ?

No think is just a big gap. Remember seeing previous larger photos, where you coudl see the gap in more detail. Looks like the lower front valance has been replaced and was welded in too low :dontknow: .

Half the problem selling it might be that it has appeared so many times on ebay without selling. Might make potential customers wary.

Ouch - I hate that…
Can also be an issue when a pattern bonnet is fitted.

I couldn't possibly comment, although I'm not bidding myself

I'd hope any prospective owner will find the club first and then go hunting for a car.

Unless you are really good at evaluating a car an owners club is probably the best first place to start (sounds like Babylon 5!)

Cheers,

Drew.

That Golf was in Oct 2004 issue of VW Motoring. Clearer pics there. Unfortunately there does seem to be some sort of problem with the front panel.

It looks a nice car anyway, remember not many s1 come up for sale.

I'll probably wait for a good low milage example to come up for sale.
