By aftermarket do you mean non genuine? I hear GSF do them but not sure about quality. Can anyone offer an opinion on this or recommend an alternative. I agree ?100 is crazy money.

Yes GSF jobbie or from someone like Venom etc. Not ideal but a ?100 is silly money. I will track one day eventually.

I just don't like the idea of being invited into his bedroom unannounced.

Quiksilver, is that for the fancy three slat ones or for standard looking ones? I want a standard looking one.

Especially as the grille on offer is for a diesel car!!! check the 2 small holes lower down on the right hand side for the "diesel" badge to clip into, i threw 2 of these away when i moved and disregarded them as toot! along with the chrome trim! oh well you live and learn 8O

Pretty sure the grille with the 2 small holes on the rhs were fitted to many different Golfs- not just diesels!

My GL 1500 petrol has such a grille- I think it used to be possible to obtain from VW little badges to fit on front grille stating model type-Driver, GL,GLS etc.  These seem to be rare now (except for the diesel ones fitted as standard) and VW made them obsolete years ago.

Shame those grilles bit the dust :?

Cheers

Yep, I can confirm mine has the 2 little holes too. Luckily, both of my cars have their original single headlamp grilles and surrounds (1 is chrome, other is red) in good condition. Handy to know I have ?200 worth of parts if I need the money!

I'm pretty sure the two holes were from the diesel too, my series 1 didn't have the two holes, but I have seen many which do, may be they were from other models but the GTI original grille never had the holes.

I think (not sure) that its a 1982-on feature, or something like that. My 1984 has them, the 1981 doesn't….
