Help, can't find a manifold and it's blowing a goodun.....

Hi there, been trying for a week to get hold of a manifold for my mk1 gti cabby 89-90. Either all gone or bolts sheared etc. Does anybody know a good place to try or is it worth just getting a nice shiny new sporty type ? (and yes, if so what's the best/ cheapest/ mix of the two ?!?!)

Did you buy the one with the split/flexi section in it? Also, did you obtain the adapter to reduce the size to fit it to the existing system?

  :banghead:  :dontknow:  went to 24/7 performance parts and requested manifold for mk1 gti cabrio, they recommended the part and I ordered, was told it's designed for my moto !

comes in 2 bits if that sounds right ? what else will i need for this ?

you reckon it might take a bit of tweakin to get sorted ?

i've only had four branches snap and break weilds when its not had this joint on them, never had to modify and put a flexi section on. had a manifold around 10 years back without this joint and it snaped in less than 12 months, but since then we always fit a rear poly engine mount

I recognise that picture!

Are you saying you don't use a flexi section if the manifold has the bolt/spring section pictured? I have just got a flexi section to fit with the above manifold just to be on the safe side (I have a poly rear engine mount too)…

How tight are you supposed to do the bolts up? I guess the less tight you do them the more room for movement there is but not tight enough and exhaust gasses could leak…

that joint is there so that the manifold isn't ridged, any flexing or moving will take place there.
