fuel metering head CO mixture screw

Just recently my car a 1.8 gti dx engine which ive owned for three years, suddenly started running really bad, wont idle, misfiring poor performance etc, So started going through all the basic checks changed fuel pump cause it was getting noisy, spark plugs were getting really sooted up, running super rich all the time. Today as a last resort i removed the metering head, now what i need is a picture of the CO mixture screw out of the head because i think mine is missing there is a hole but no screw to turn? Is it possible for the screw to work itself loose and fall out? Is it possible its been missing all the time, will the car run without it?
Can i still buy the mixture screws new from a dealer? Ive been googleing trying to find a picture but had no luck so if anyone can help

Thanks in advance!!

Thanks Lads, ive taken it out now is the screw im adjusting actually in the arm? Does it benefit from cleaning like a jet in a carb or should i just put it back on and adjust it? I didnt really want to touch this bit but i think ive been at everything else fingers crossed

its just a grub screw not a jet. but if you fully unscrewed it you'll have a hell of a time putting it back in unless you completely strip the air metering unit down, been there, done that

Hi mate, did you manage to sort this problem? Not the screw, the rough running, no idle, sooted up plugs? I have just rebuilt my campaign and Im having what sounds like exactly the same problem. Car will start after about 30 seconds of cranking, and even then it struggles. Once its fired it is rough, missing a bit. And you have to keep your foot on throttle as it wont idle at all! Timing is still set at 0 degrees as I havent been able to warm it up to time properly.
