PLEASE NO CAPS LOOKS LIKE SHOUTING 8O

as for the tank I think that you'll have to take it out to drain it and I'm not sure how to empty but give it a good shake. However so long as you're not getting any running problems you could just keep changing the filter until it runs clean, or even put an extra paper filter on the fuel line and change them as they're cheaper.

As for the carb apparently they are a bit prone to running crap and might be worth looking for a replacement/backup.

Yep done mine last night. take it off, and give it a good flush four or five times with water tapping the outside to revove excess rust inside. took me and a mate 3hrs from start to finish. a job worth doing.

dirty tank

cheers guys has been some help .. took off the sender unit tonight and had a look in the tank , big rust patch with red flake floating around in the petrol.it seems that i have two choices 1 remove the tank give it a good clean and refit .may have problems again later.
2. buy a new tank and fit that, not sure of cost  and where to get one .what do you think?
also tonight found that my speedo has gave up on me , is this a common problem, and any ideas as to which end i start to look at first.
i also have a strange home made clamp on fuel line to the fuel res think this is to back up the pressure, any ideas as to why this is ness.
mot is due soon so need to get these things sorted asap .

if you've got a big rust patch in the tank then you're gonna get more problems as the rust flakes off
Could try to find a good secondhand one (try posting in wanted section) as for a new one
maybe here: http://www.gwentvw.co.uk/
or crazy quiff I'm not sure

with the speedo try looking behind the clocks as the cable either snapps or disconnects at the clocks or at the gearbox

Have no idea about the fuel clamp thing 8O

If crazyquiff doesn't have a tank, try GSF (Car Parts & Spares -- Buy Online with Fast UK Delivery | GSF Car Parts) - a new pattern tank from them is ?70 I think.

It sounds like it may be worth your while replaceing it if the rust inside is that bad…
