Spotted these on the bay, don't know if they're any good though.

I am asking what is the advantage of an uprated loom
An "Uprated Loom" uses far thicker gauge wire/cable to drive the Headlamps leaving the original wiring to simply drive the relays (Note that Left & Right Headlamps are on separate circuits with a fuse for each). The thicker wire eliminates a substantial portion of the voltage drop which occurs due to the original wires from the fusebox to the lamps being so "scrawny"…..they are in dire need of three shredded wheats every day!. This voltage drop can be as much as 3 to 4 volts which is a quarter of what you started with!!!! The voltage drop accounts for Mk1's having such awful lights.
IMHO, the replacement thicker wire should have a suitable fuse inserted in each circuit…I don't know if the commercial/evilbay looms have this but its an easy task to insert an in-line fuse from Halfrauds or whoever.
In the case of "Uprated Bulbs", note that 100watt bulbs are legal for Off-Road use only……Mr. Plod could be saucing you if he spots 'em (pun intended)
