Replacing a voltage regulator

Been out and got a voltage regulator to try and solve my dash problems (rev, temp and fuel all reading half of what they should).

Where exactly is it located so i can switch them? :dontknow:

Hang on, voltage regulator is basically a bit of kit that bolts into the alternator, I thought it worked as a switching device, waiting until car was started and producing enough current, then allowing the alternator to pass power back over to the battery?  Hence why you have to rev it a bit if you have a GS&F one (higher threshold).

Voltage regulator is plastic module located on alternator. Pretty straight forward to change, although in some cases you may have to loosen off/remove alternator to get at it.

Think I've got all confused I was tring to buy the one thats in the corner on the back of the dash on the printed plastic circuit board!!

Where can I get one of those??

The part you need is a 10v regulator, original component is a TCA700Y, but you can't get those anymore. Equivalent is an L7810CV. The new version has to be mounted on its front as the legs are reversed.

You will need to fit some washers or a spacer underneath to get the heat sink effect to work properly. I used a bit of aluminium you can probably see in the photo. I got mine off ebay 99p each plus £1.50 postage. No need to pay more than that.
