Order of dash switches

Hello,

Can anybody confirm if the following is true.

Regarding the various switches to the left of the instrument cluster, fog lights, hazard etc. what is the order of the switches on an 83 GTI. And does the blanking plate go at the bottom?

From haynes it seems to be as follows Top to bottom,

Fog light switch
Rear heated window switch
hazard light switch
blanking plate

I have two headlight switches, one with kind of a bulb on it and the other with a picture of a headlight wtth lines to the the left of it, which is the proper one to put in.

Another couple of questions and I'm finished

I have also 2 fog light switches, 1 with a replaceable buld (bulb in a removable holder) and the other with the bulb "fixed in the switch", which is the appropriate one.

Finally and probably the easiest for you guys, when the headlights are on full you can switch on the fog lights, but which, front or the rear fog lights are supposed to come on first. At the moment I have it so the front fogs come on first (fog switch position 1) and then the rear (fog position 2).

Regards
Scotty

Scott,
I have been messing about with my switches over the past week cause the switch illumination wasn't working (my fault…see previous subject on dashlights!).
I have my dash set up as rear de-mist top, fog middle, hazard bottom and blank under that. I have just replaced the headlamp switch with a brand new unit from GSF (?6.50) and it came with the headlamp and lines to the left but the previous switch only had a bulb!
I can't really comment on the fog lamp situation as my spots come on with the main beam… is it Campaigns that have them seperately operated…I don't know. My rear fog lamp comes on in position two.
Hope that helps.

For Campaigns the Front fogs come on first, then the rear fog when you switch to the full depression.

As for the position of the switches, mine has:

Hazard
Rear heated screen
Fogs
Blanking plate      :dontknow:

I think though that the correct positions are

Rear heated screen
Fogs
Hazards
Blanking plate  (from old advertising pictures this seems to be right).

Cheers,

I have now set up as follows.

Demister (Top)
Fog (middle)
Hazard (lower middle)
Blank (Bottom)

I have rewired so that front fogs come on fog switch position 1 and rear on fog position 2.

I used the headlight switch with the headlight picture with the lines to the left.

Thanks Again
