Front Wiper Motor - Mk2 Upgrade

I know that there have been loads of topics posted about this - I had read most of them before I tried this upgrade, honest!

I was having the usual problem with slow wipers (not a good idea in Sunny Scotland!), so decided to upgrade the Mk2 wiper motor and bought what I was a working motor from a Scottish VW site, so I hope that my problem isn't with the motor itself. The part number on the motor is 192955113A  403.372

I have the older style connector as part of my wiring loom:

- but the new wiper has a different connector and only two visible wires, the green and the red.

Following on from instructions that I found on other topics, I cut as much wire as I could and tried to put spade connectors into the new style connector. Even then the wires were very short, so I extended a couple with the orange wire that you can see in this photo:

I noted that the green and the red wires were attached to pins 2 & 4 of the five pins in the new plug, so I have been trying different combinations of the remaining two wires (presuming that the earth seems to be the outside plug which is soldered to the metal casing of the motor), but no signs of any life.

I have replaced the fuse (15 amp in fuse no.11) in the hope that would help, but still nothing.

Any tips or tests that I can do would be greatly appreciated - I am certainly not an electrician (as my crude wiring attempts will confirm) so I'm hoping that it's something basic that I've missed.

Is it worth trying to find a new style connector and jointing the two sets of wires between the new connector fitted to the motor and the old style connector then fitted to the end of the wiring loom?

Thanks.

Doh, what you are supposed to do is cut a length of wire and plug from the MK2 and splice that to your old plug with spades!

just to add, loads of more modern vws have the same plug, seen it on MK3 Golfs, passat, SEAT etc. loads of choices in zee scrappy. might be able to use the motor off the same car also!
could just be your motor has packed up! the way you have done it should work in theory but you have made life more difficult for yourself

From D'oh to Woo Hoo!

Sourced a new style plug and thanks to some earlier posts, I figured out the wires to join (the wires on the plug were different to the wires on my own loom), but the numbers stamped on the two different plugs matched.

I now have wipers that sweep at normal and fast, which is a world away from before.

Thanks to all for your help.

Will report back when i've managed to do it, though good shout on taking some of the donor car loom out too.
