Headlight bulbs

OK, so I know this question has been asked 1,000 times before, but what is max headlight bulb wattage you can get away with on the standard wiring loom??

I've picked up some new headlights for peanuts but didn't know if the 55W bulbs are standard or not? :dontknow:

The wires look very thin on my Mk1 compared to say a newer car, I would only rekonmend 55/60 only, but you could always do an upgrade on the loom and a couple of relays. I have on mine and it does make a huge difference.

Cheers Steve - I had seen these before. With the uprated loom can you go over 60W?

As long as the lights aren't buring the asphalt like lazers then I guess you are ok?!

The weakest point is not the wires, but the headlamp switch. Hence the need for relays.

Legally speaking, you can have bulbs over 55/60w in cars built before 1986, but you will of course need the relay/loom set-up to avoid burning everything out.
