Cambelt timing tools

Post

Hi all I'm after some advise.
After fixing my new sump on at the weekend fired it up for first time in four months and stater just span so tapped it a few times with hammer and it fired up very ruff at first but always does after been sat a while. Was looking around the bay and noticed diesel leaking from the injector pump at the throtel pulley. I have a Lucas cav injector ( 1.6d jk engine ) I've rang a recommended diesel specialist and had a quote for a full refurb with parts polished and laquerd (pimped) for £200.
Will this be worth doing or should I find a bosh injector as thesr as supposed to be better and have that refurbed .
Also then I need the tools pulley lock and cam plate ??? So I can take it off the car
Does anyone know where I can by these

Cheers for your help

Sweet. Got a timing gauge, cam plate. Locking bolt and belt tensioner for 45 pound off flea bay. Do you know any comparisons ( which is better) between the cav and the Bosch pump jelly belly ???

Not really just take your time

If you have the dial gauge to set it all back up you will be fine

If not we're always here to help :)

Ok so finally got around to taking pump off the car yesterday after a bit of rusty bolt removal and problem solving I have it out ready to get re sealed . But I now have a new problem. The slot at the end of the cam wich the locking plate goes into I have slightly cracked trying to get pulley off. I have a new cam which I've had lying around is it worth me changing this and how difficult would it be to do this

I've eventually got my injector pump back from the shop fitted it put new cambelt on all the marks were in correct spots bled the fuel lines. I thinking this is all that needed to be done ? So now the car won't start up in my first couple of tries of turning the key after file lines bled the engine just started then cut out it did this twice then no more. The engine is tuning over but won't fire up any advice would be gravely appreciated as I have to get ready for bug jam and still need an mot so time running out

I've just read a couple more posts and come across the solenoid on the pump when tightening the bolt that holds the spade connector i may have accidently spun the thread it bites a little but not tight could this be the cause ???

Tonight I've sorted the screw holding the the clip on the solenoid. Reset the cam and the pump so all marks line up exact. Have bled the fuel again so defiantly have fuel going in to injectors. Turned key the engine is cranking but won't fire up stumped again. The last time I started it ( before noticed pump leaking ) I had to tap the starter motor as my friend told me it was not engage ing ? ? Could this be the case now and starter motor had it ?? Or could it be something else ??

Just read a few more bits and tonight I am going to set timing again as this  is critical and see if that works. Also I will order a new starter but as the engine is spinning it might not be this ??

Is the starter engaging or not?
Is the battery charged?

You can tell from the sound whether the engine is turning over slowly or quickly, and if the starter is engaging or not, etc

Are the glow plugs working properly?

A bit of start fluid would probably help, especially if there's a doubt if its bled properly.
