1.5 engine code

Hello. Today I bought a VW Golf 1.5 diesel LD, registered for the first time in April 1978.

I would like to know how I can check that my engine is a 1.5 and not a 1.6 diesel. Numbering or reference What I have to look?

I hope your help. Best regands and thanks a lot.

On my old 1.6 NA (CR code) there was a casting of 1.6 on the back of the block, beneath the exhaust manifold i believe. The same on my 1.9 aaz. Thats where i would start looking.

Some engine codes can be located on the smooth plate on the top right front of the block near the waterpipe exit. 

Couldn't read the code on the aaz engine but could on the 1.6. These codes can be cross referenced for cylinder capacity

Hi,

it looks like a 1600 to me, from the airbox and the cambelt cover.

thats a mk2 golf engine
