4x nearly new winter tyres for Golf Mk1 13-inch steel wheels

Hi all

I'm selling my nearly new winter tyres after using them to drive to Wolfsburg and back (see my thread on Mk1 Golf chat for the full write-up).

They were purchased brand new at the beginning of March 2018 specifically for the trip, as winter tyres are a legal requirement in Germany.

I now don't need them any more as I won't be driving the car in winter, but I honestly thoroughly recommend fitting them if you plan on using your beloved Golf in any conditions under 6 degrees. The levels of grip are genuinely impressive and they made driving through the worst of the Beast from the East a breeze.

I purchased them from Black Circles, and considering they're only exactly a month old with less than 1,500 miles under their belt, the price here reflects a decent saving on what you would pay new, as we're now going into better weather and I could use the storage space.

Collection is in Bedford, UK. Feel free to PM me on here and we can discuss times etc. C41C83B5-B07C-4D3D-92C4-CD369C6888C6.jpeg

I can support what you're saying about the extra grip you get from winter tyres although I've not tried those.

I have to have them because I live in Austria but my point is that if as some do use their Mk1's in winter it would be well worth them getting a set like this because the extra grip you get constantly in wet weather conditions is phenomenal compared to a summer tyre.

For example I have a Golf Mk6 TSI DSG Tiptronic 7speed pumping out 177 Bhp. Lots of power low down now I run Michelin in the winter and another set of Michelin in the summer.
Both sets about two years old.

Now when I which to summer for the first 2 or 3 days I don't feel totally safe it feels like I'm sliding ⛐ a little bit especially in rain but I'm not.
I'm a very experienced driver all it is is that my brain has not fully excepted the fact I have less trip as simple as that.

A day or two later I don't really notice the difference anymore.
I don't normally promote items for sale but I honestly thought this was well worth mentioning.

Thanks Mike.

Yeah I was really impressed at the difference these made. In fact it became really apparent when I went to move our Golf Mk7.5 on summer tyres just after driving in the snow with these on, and the new Golf just kept on going when I turned and braked - scary. Winter tyres give you total confidence. Wish more people used them here or at least just gave them a try. Everyone would be a convert, I guarantee it!

Thanks mate but I think even something like winter tyres is a lot like learning correctly 4wd in an Audi for example takes practice.

With either there is no "Get out of jail for free".

Both are brilliant but a little knowledge and experience is dangerous. Just look back at the statistics with the Audi Quattro Turbo back in the 80's.

It felt so safe drivers thought they were invincible.
It was only when they tried to push the cars technical capabilities to compliment for there lack of knowledge and driving skills did it go tits up.

Often in a very big way!
