With a heavy heart I am selling my little golf. It is an enjoyable car to drive and a real practical classic with five doors, reasonable mpg, git looks but with cheaper insurance. The car is also 95% standard with all the hard to find and expensive trim present including the steel wheels and chrome hubcaps. The car has been off the road for two years due to a localised engine fire. I just don’t have the time to get it back on the road, and plan to move soon so I can’t justify keeping it. I am a VW enthusiast and would like to see it go to a good home. It does not run, has no MOT or Tax, currently SORN and will need a trailer. The car will need about £300-500 of parts and need a good solid week or two to get back on the road. The GX is a runout edition for the mk1 golf, it a 5 door Gti looking car with 1.5 engine, spot lights, front spoiler Gti style interior (with a unique tartan cloth) centre console, Gti steering wheel and loads of exterior chrome. 1500 where produced with only 136 left so they are quite rare, desirable and increasing in value. The fire manged to take out the bonnet, grill, a lot off the plastic engine components and burnt off some engine bay paint and lacquer. I have painted the engine bay and found the all the hard to find plastic components on ebay which will come with car. The engine does not start but is not seized and pulled well before the fire, it also had good compressions and emissions. The car comes with about £400 of new parts Including a cambelt kit, high quality silicone HT leads, service components and NOS Weber 36 TLP*(manual choke) that is a standard replacement/improvement for the Pierburg auto choke. *appropriate jets are available form ebay Parts needed, mainly off the shelf and low cost Engine bay wiring loom and drivers side headlight loom (might be salvageable) Available second hand from specialist http://www.golfmk1.co.uk/index.htm Plastic air box for weber carb, latter 1.6 more common one found on cabs, caddy’s and MK2s Lower plastic cam belt cover. Fuel pump Radiator + hoses + fan Top mount Fuel hoses Battery Speedo, accelerator and bonnet release cable. Gear linkage bushes Bits and bobs Body work For a 35-year-old unrestored car it polishes up well and looks quite tidy, there is of course the odd little scratch, dent and spots of rust as you expect. Overall it is solid but could do with some body work in a few years time. The sills, inner wings and bulk head are in good order. Spots of rust both front wings and passenger door. The boot has some rust spots by the window and a poor fit. The lacquer has faded away on some of the rear driver side door. Both arches have a few spots, but nothing to worry about yet. The rear panel has a rusty top lip under the tailgate seal and two big holes by the number plate screws. The spare wheel well has been repaired at some point with a generous blob of resin, the front valence is quite rusty and has also been patched up. The bonnet I bought to replace the one the died in the fire is a bit rusty and is a slightly different colour and is quite flat and scratched.  The front valence has some rust spots. The driver’s side front wing has some lacquer damage due to the fire and a dent below the bumper. The front bumper has burn marks on from the fire. Interior The interior is in really good condition, the driver’s seat bolsters are about 90% and the fabric has no rips or much wear, I am amazed at the condition of the seats for a 35 year old car, they put a 10 year old car to shame. There is a small nick in the vinyl on the passenger seat, the seat rails could do with new bushes (normal problem) as they are a bit lose when they are adjusted. The Inside door handle are a bit lose but again that’s a quick fix buy getting new plastic clips. History The car covered 170k miles and is well into its second life, with most of the components being replaced and a service history dating back to 1983. The car has spent a fair amount of time in the south of France which explains why there is very little rust. My friend brought the car from here and drove it around Europe and back to the UK. I purchased the car and moved to Leeds where I used it on weekends and driving back and forth to London without any problems. Here are the parts I replaced Inner CV joints Two new Continental Tyres NOS original Volkswagen back box Rear wheel bearings Viewing is highly recommended, and I free most evenings of the week and at the weekend. In very good condition this model can go for £4-5000 I am going to see how the auction goes, but I am open to sensible offers and reserve the right to stop the auction. Deposit of £100 via PayPal within 24hours of winning Cash on collection or bank transfer Any questions please ask Thanks Jody
