Description:

1992 Mk1 Golf (GTi) Convertible Classicline (Euro Rivage)
Possibly the only Classicline in the UK!

The Classicline was the European version of the Rivage, but with some slight differences. It came with the 2H engine, a catalytic convertor and sound proofing (see option codes on boot sticker). So she’s a GTi on the log book, has a GTi badge, but is technically not (the Classicline is slightly reduced HP in comparison to GTi but has been decat to bring a few back. Apparently just needs a different ECU to bring back the rest). So as with the Rivage, electric throughout, cream leather interior, castellet alloys, This car was imported from Switzerland in 2000 and converted to RHD (seems a crazy amount of effort to me!). You'll notice the windscreen wipers go the other direction. The history folder includes all the import documents.

She’s been my pride and joy since 2014 but it’s time for her to find a lovely new partner in crime as I’ve bought a campervan. The mileage is 69500 but you will notice that this goes up faster than miles should. IE this is actually KM and when converted it seems they just replaced the fascia on the clocks. She is still used so this will increase. Has been a joy to own and all in all is in great condition for her age. Any mechanics and test centres who have seen her always comment on her. Any maintenance she has needed has been done by specialist VW mechanics.

Mohair roof is in amazing condition with no leaks and has the beige torneau cover Bilstein shocks and eibach 35mm lowering springs Longlife custom made stainless steel exhaust system decat (life time guarantee and sounds great, but not too loud when less throttle) Headlight wiring loom upgrade Goodridge brake hoses and greenstuff pads New sound system and small sub in the boot New clutch, gearbox and linkage/bushings Replaced steering column and UJ Recent service with rocker cover gasket change, MOT and full valet. Heaps of paperwork dating back to import in 2000.

She is 27 years old and so has her charms too. I'm listing them all so you know what you're buying. Bumpers could benefit from a respray due to on street parking all her life with me. Also some lacquer and paint peeling on the bumpers. Driver’s side electric window slow and makes a scraping sound, but functions fine. Electric roof quite slow, but I'm not sure what speed they're meant to go. Also works whilst driving (which I thought they weren't meant to) which is handy! Just don't go too fast whilst doing that. Steering rack has some play in it and will need replacing at some point (£100 on eBay) Driver’s side A window has some marks where I tried to break in after locking my keys in there! The red light has come back on on the temperature gauge. Had 2 mechanics look at it and not be able to fathom it. It stopped, and has just come back. All is fine, I am guessing just something up with electrics…aaaaah old VWs Alloys could benefit from refurb. One had a refurb not so long ago to test if the company did a good job or not (and they did) but never got round to the rest. MFA has never worked. I have a feeling in the conversion they never connected it up to the steering wheel stalk. Heated seats I got working but they would only be on full or off- so went with off and disconnected them. Possibly just need a new switch Starter motor is now making some funny noises but still working fine. I have just managed to drive over a log in a dark car park which ended up knocking the side skirt off. I will leave this off as you can see how rust free she is around the sills; the body kit often hides rust, but not in this case. The side skirt and sill are not damaged in anyway.

Lots of other little bits done, such as interior light changed to Mk2 so that when you close doors it stays on for a few seconds (honestly makes more difference than you'd think), road legal pressed metal plates, things like that. Can be a daily driver and maintained, or a winter project to bring up to show standard. Whatever you want to do with her she'll be happy :) (but in my opinion these cars are to be used and enjoyed!) Car is located in Hove where viewing is welcome. Priced to sell, not to be haggled. Rarer than a Rivage, and low mileage so this is at least 2k lower than value. Had 2 time wasters (both from Cheshire oddly enough) on eBay buying, but not paying and not arranging collection. Why oh why did I go the eBay route?

Here's the facebook ad for her and you are welcome to contact me on there too:
