Having always loved the g40, the natural progression was to put the awesome engine into the best handling car in the planet. My cousin had just spent 6k on his g40 at Pitstop Developments before he decided to move to Switzerland to pursue a snowy lifestyle. I already had the golf  shell since I was about 23 (I'm 37 now) so I needed that engine but I knew he wouldn't let it go cheap. I gave him 2.5k for it in the end and he went off to play in the snow with beautiful women while I spent the next 6 years in a garage. Originally we junked the little 1.3 engine for a polo gt engine, the injection was certainly faster than the old carb 1.3 but not enough. I had the engine mounts made up by a local firm using half the original golf mounts and half polo. The belt that drives the supercharger had to be diverted due to the new mounting position, so a slightly longer belt and another idler pulley were fitted. The 3" custom exhaust was taken from the polo and cut and altered to fit the golf by Powerflow in Basingstoke. The ignition key and front seats are taken from an '82 Porsche 924, the seats could do with re covering but I use the split in the passenger seat to hold my phone. The original braking system has been removed and replaced with a remote servo and adjustable rear bias. This setup is amazingly effective, tens of times stronger and more confidence inspiring than before. Pagid discs and pads all round and new rear drum cylinders  make for excellent braking. The interior has got a new roof lining, new carpet although the carpet does need some work to get it snug. The supercharger was sent to Jabbasport in 2013 for a rebuild and has hardly driven since. Actually it hasn't been driven any considerable distance since the charger was rebuilt, I honestly take the car out a few times a year and am more inclined to cycle as the traffic is ridiculous in Newbury, with no plans to improve roads but 1000s more houses currently being built, cycling is the best way for me to get around. It also has thatcham cat 1 immobiliser. The rear seats have been removed and an mdf board has been cut and covered to occupy the space (see photos)  there's no sound system or ICE as the car was built to be driven and heard. The wheels are 7j ATS Classic with Yokohama A539. The suspension is raceland coil overs. Inside it has boost gauge, oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge, and an air fuel gauge. The air fuel jumps around, I thought this might be down to the lambda sensor so I replaced it and the same thing happened.  It runs well though and is ridiculously fast. It sounds like a hyabusa or a charged gsxr, a bit too much for me now that I'm becoming an old man. I want to sell it as I don't have the time or space to own such a lovely thing and I'm worried that I might not have a garage space to put it this winter so to stop me worrying, I'll selll it and I hope the next person will have the space and time to keep it sweet. It's not perfect but it is a very shiny, clean car which has had hundreds of hours and thousands of pounds spent. New Helix paddle clutch fitted last month with new thrust bearing. New brake light switch fitted yesterday. New battery last week. Thanks for looking, please let me know if I've missed anything or if you'd like to know any more.
