Description:
Genuine sale for usual reasons, time, children- I restored a campervan and the golf was a step too far. I also learnt a lesson from the camper, and made sure the golf project was virtually rust free and solid!

The GTI was bought 10 years ago and was pretty original with only 76k on the clock (apart from replacement hood and seats). It needed some TLC (shocks, brakes etc) but we had it on the road for a year or two before moving house and starting on a full resto. Since then it has been garaged and I started stripping it (see photos)- hood, interior and trim removed, running gear and engine still in- that was 5 years ago and it has sat there ever since. It is now time someone else took up the baton.

All parts have been stored in the garage (see pics). The donor car is a MK1 cabby 1.6 GLI 1982, which I acquired in 2008. This is rusty round the sills/corners etc and whilst there are some differences between models, it is great source of all those annoying little spares you need when doing a resto. It also has original cabby seats which had been replaced in the GTi previously, which have been removed and dry-stored. The GLI has been stored outside with a car-cover over it.

Various pictures below including the GTI when it was running next to the camper, and now partly stripped in the garage, some of the parts including original Pirelli P's, and the blue GLI outside.

To complete the resto it really needs to be finished stripping, painted, engine overhauled (runs and is unmodified), gearbox needs recon (syncro gone as is the norm), and then rebuilt with any mods including interior re-trim.

Loads more pics/info available on request.
