So after nearly 6 years of ownership I have come to the difficult decision to sell my beautiful Series one Golf. I’m basically only selling because of lack of use over the past few years due to family and business life, I can’t see much changing in the next few years so I believe the time has come. I will be extremely sad to see it go.

This is a great investment opportunity and anyone who knows Mk1 Golf’s will appreciate how rare and well looked after this is, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I have.

I purchased this from a close friend who previously owned it for 12 years and he carried out all the work you see on it today, I have known this car for a long time. The only thing I have changed are the wheels to genuine BBS RS wheels.

The body was restored and resprayed the original Florida blue in 2004, and still looks fresh today. In 2005 the engine was converted to the 1984cc ABF 16v, taken from a low mileage Mk3 Golf, after the clutch went on the original 1100. The car is still 1100 on the logbook, so it’s your choice whether you change it. No expense spared in all aspects of the build of this car, I have probably £10k in receipts and there are two comprehensive folders of paperwork.

The engine was set up on a rolling road and made 154bhp@6000rpm. Really pulls well, very torquey, sub 15sec ¼ mile. Great fun to drive, loves twisty B-roads and the carbs sound incredible. The engine had covered 40k when fitted. Since I have owned the car it has been garaged and only used during the summer. Car is well waxed and cared for.

The car has done 77k miles and has been completely reliable since the conversion, it travelled all the way to Le Mans 24hr and back in 2013 it did not miss a beat, plus the attention was unreal, Porsches, Ferrari’s all slowing down on the motorway to take photographs. In the past 12 months I have added a new crank sensor, new Facet fuel pump and battery (which comes with a warranty).

It has 12 months MOT in April 2017, it went through no problem. It has been off the road for the past 2/3 years.

The early ‘lowback’ interior was retrimmed in ½ leather and is completely mint. The drivers seat is mounted on a Mk2 height adjustable base so sits nice and low.

The bodywork generally is excellent, however there are a few faults which I should mention. The front sill jacking points have pushed up slightly, a small ding in the front of one wing (below the bumper), a minor crack in the paint on the tailgate where the wiper removed. Also a 5mm bubble of rust just appeared on the A-pillar. There is a mark on the lower rear sill by the exhaust outlet and some minor light marks around the vehicle. I recently put some tape on the tailgate due to my garage lightly touching the body, when I went to remove this the other day is started to lightly lift the paint so I have left it on there and yes I know I’m an idiot for doing it! However in general looking over the vehicle it is difficult to spot the defects unless really looking hard, I am bit of a perfectionist, it still shines up really well pictures of all blemishes are available.

only other faults are gearbox, which works perfectly but 2nd gear syncro can ‘clunk’ when cold, and diff bearings slightly noisy. The ‘box has always been like this since fitted and hasn’t got any worse.

Only electrical fault which probably is a simple fix but haven’t had time to investigate, is one dipped headlamp not working properly but just linked to other side to get through MOT.

Currently it has Bridgestone tyres fitted which are slightly stretched, even though they look good it doesn’t really help the ride or handling, included in the sale are a set of very good Toyo Proxes with proper profiles (195/45/15), I intended to swap these on but haven’t got round to it. Drivers front tyre currently has a slow puncture needs topping up about once a week, no visual signs of a problem but haven’t investigated yet with the plan to swap the tyres.

This really is a rare opportunity to buy a brilliant car, you see very few of them on the road anymore and are becoming rarer at the shows, it has won a number of trophies over the years and I can see it winning plenty more.

The car is located in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire GL15

Any questions or additional pictures required then please do ask.

Price: £10,000

No PX or Swap thank you as funds are being put towards an RS4.

Just to update I have been quoted via a highly reputable body shop £500 to sort all the outer body imperfections and light cosmetic rust areas, I have confirmed to have this done for middle of June, however if someone in the mean time would like to do deal I will of course take this into consideration.

With the outer body parts done all paint work will be immaculate.

Open to sensible offers.
