Description:I bought this car in 2014 as a bog standard white GTi cabrio that needed a bit of love and decided to make it a bit more fun. After many, many hours at the well known Golf racing specialist, HR Engineering, Harvey Rice transformed my Golf into a real wolf in sheeps clothing:I have spent nearly £6k (plus the original cost of the car) make it into the little road rocket it now is. HR Engineering took a track prepared 2.0 ACE engine on carbs from a mk2 Golf GTi (that they had built - and I have history for this car too) and transplanted into mine along with:New clutchWiringSuspensionFit 16" black alloys from donor vehicleG60 280mm brakes and new padsNew top mountsStub axlesSteering rack and UJNew engine mountsNew fuel pumpBraided fuel lineServo Reservoir potNew sports exhaust/manifoldNew non-power steering rackThis engine was originally stripped to a bare block, cleaned, honed out and refaced 5 thou. The crank, rods, pistons and pulleys were then all balanced together. It was hten rebuilt with new gaped rings, KS main and big end bearings, along with a new oil pump and pickup. The head was reconditioned with high lift cams and was skimmed to up the compression ratio. Then just to make sure it was spot on mechanically, I took it the carb experts at Wilshers Garages (well known for their Mini Miglia efforts) and had it rolling road tested and tuned up. I was expecting about 180-185 bhp but was pleasantly surprised to receive it back with 205bhp.This car now looks like a standard little cabrio, but goes like stink. It is a race prepared engine so do not expect to use it for a daily commute as it will not be your thing. It is a great weekend blast/track car - although I have yet to take it on track.Since getting it back from HR Engineering, I have fitted a replacement interior, which has no rips/tears and lightens the car up better than the original dark blue interior. There were also two bad areas of corrosion on the rear quarters near the hood line and I have spent a further £500 having these fixed and resprayed. These cars are going up in value and to me there are 2 choices for this car - respray the front and doors and you will have an awesome little car or simply leave it as is and have some fun. I would state that I am not looking to get back all the money I have put into this, so be prepared to pick up a good value, seriously quick little mk1.There are some faults with this car, which if you want to go down route 1, would need addressing:1. Light corrosion below front windscreen2. Surface rust on front panel.3. The hood needs replacingthis was the orignal ad,the car isn't perfect but a blast to drive looks ratty but alot of work has been done of the years, i have all the bill's from the mk2 golf and from the conversion into the mk1 from hr engineering£3500 i can email pics its white with black hood and black alloys.
