Tire polish

For show and shine etc...

My Mk1 will come out of hibernation in a week or so, my boots are fairly new but need the walls freshened up.
The same with my Mk6 as I will be changing over from the winter wheels and tires for the more sporty summer set.

So what are use guys using to achieve a good fresh look and and tips on doing it properly please?

Tire polish

Hi Mike, personally I find the best way is to use hot soapy water and a nail brush or something similar and dry the best you can with a cloth. Let the tyres dry and then apply your chosen dressing I have found Meguiars to be my personal favourite, it's reasonably priced and you can get a handy applicator which works pretty well. I have always and still do use auto glym products and think there pretty good but the tyre treatment is a very disappointing experience. Hope this helps.

I just went through this yesterday.
I took all the paint of my teardrops about 7 years ago.
Every Spring I clean them with SOS pads and water, then using a Drill I hit them with BRASSO… Let it dry, then Polish it off.

For the Tyres I use "Black Magic" tire wet, and a Sponge.
Lasts about 2 months…..

Meguiars Endurance for me as well, or Autosmart Hystyle which can be brushed on. secret is as said to get the tyre really clean and dry first.  At shows I even give the treads a clean and coating, by the time you have left the showground its all rubbed off Before you get to the road.

You do the treads too  :o  Blimey that is anal  :P

I also use Meguirs stuff. I've also got some Poorboys stuff. Seems to last a bit longer ans gives a 'clean' look without the shine. A bit more 'low key' if you know what I mean.

Well I'm looking for the fresh look but not high gloss!

VW repaired my Mk6 last week and as part of there service they cleaned it inside and out.

But what they used on the tires is a high gloss material.
Just doesn't look right, however these winter alloys and tires will be changed this week for the summer sport wheels.

Sounds like the Poorboys stuff might be a bit more like what I'm looking for. I'm not going to shows, I just want them to look good! 👍

Cheers Ian, I've now ordered two bottles for the two Golf's.
Paid £28 with postage for the two, so not bad at all and it saves you messing around with posting and stuff.

But thanks for your very kind offer! 👍

Once I get the summer wheels on the Mk6 I'll take some before and after photos to show members.

These wheels have be stored over winter, done about 25k miles and have never been treated so should be a good test! 👍

Yup it's available on line mate. Just google it!

I use there stuff loads. I find it easier and different from Maguires. I do tend to mix and match between the two though!

Well I placed my order at 11:05am yesterday using Amazon prime in Germany and it arrived 07:45am this morning! ☺️
That was using standard prime delivery.

So just got to get my summer wheels and I'll give that a go! 👍

The car was riding way to low in this shot as the previous owner had the Bilstein suspension set to near race 🏎 setting. The entrance to a petrol station or underground car park was a real challenge! 😂

Better now though. 😉

Just a quick photo of what VW use.
They applied this last Friday morning so 6 days ago.

Now it's not rained here since but to my eyes this looks tacky in more ways then one.

I bet all the grit and bits of rubbish stick to it as well.  O_o

Blagh! Looks horrible!

Hope the new stuff works ok. That's a pretty impressive turnaround from Amazon

To me it's an embarrassment, not only that but there's over spray on the rims. Must remove that before there stored in a baking hot warehouse over summer or I'll never get it off. 😠

But Amazon was impressive I must say! 👍

Such an embarrassment I didn't want to recognized getting out of the car I was wearing big dark sunglasses 😎 and a baseball cap pulled down! 🤢

Just spent 30 minutes and a fiver getting that crappo off my wheels and tires! 👍

Ain't that the truth.

Actually I read that wrong as I am prone to do, and use a smart comeback like we call them Pasties over here…. But then I re-read with my Porno filter on, and wow what a difference a missing "t" can mean… :)

My wife, calls it my analimperative.
