Factory vinyl roof? Silverstone Auctions A NEW APPROACH IN AN AGE OLD BUSINESS - of talking cobblers to sell cars.

Fitted when it was (probably) resprayed to cover up an aftermarket pop-up glass sunroof?

Was a big sale price though, the market moving on to the 80's from 70s fast Fords?

Ya know I never did like Vinyl Tops on Cars… Seen too many that Cracked and ripped after about 5-7 years of Ownership.

My Wifes Toyota Corolla 1976 e-5… made Feb 76.  Lot of issues with them.  Shoot her car made 6 months before mine really had issues @ 1980.  Hers was Regular Gas, where as mine the only real difference was (UNLEADED Fuel ONLY) on mine…

You think vacuum leaks are bad on the Dubs, My 2 Toyota's went though yards of vacuum hoses….
Her's went through mufflers about every year.
Mine still had the original when I traded it in on my dub.

Some close up pictures of this on the club Facebook page , certainly areas of paintwork poor even at half the price. And yes agree that vinyl ,roof could be hiding something,  as the car had been repainted surely wouldn't have been much more effort to remove it and paint the roof. Even if it had a glass roof at least it would have been a period accessory where as a vinyl roof just ruins it in my opinion.

Well To be honest, the increased prices over here, and occasionally I get lucky…helped when I was discussing repairs on my Cabby when it was wrecked by a careless driver…  The first time it got me more monies for it, and the second time I had independent appraisal, and the previous wreck..So these types of things only help us.

To get an honest appraisal when trying to seek redress.

My guess is it was in an auction with high end cars. - Two rich bidders (probably bidding blind) adamant they were going to have it based upon its description and to be fair rarity. (Cant be many one owner S1 Gtis out there).
I would class it as a "spike"!
As Richard Hall said there are some close up shots of the paintwork on line and it wasn't great. Also had the incorrect colour seats for a red car. But whether these were factory fitted I guess only the original owner knows?

There's currently a restored 1979 tin top on Pistonheads at £30k, it's stunning!

This is the one that appeared on FB this week at the Southampton Docks, came in from Cyprus,  as pointed out on there if it was a genuine steel bumper car it wouldn't have later spec front and rear wings which show blanking plates for plastic bumper mounts. Plus it’s got late Series 2 windscreen pillar covers Yomp

The Silverstone car in the original post has period Lucas Servo-glide electric windows fitted, be interesting to know if they work correctly after all these years?

Yea plenty of "odd" bits on this car from cyprus.
Later radiator mounts, strange vacuum pipework over the engine if you want to get anal!! Still gives me some hope the amount of time and money Ive invested in one!!

You would think that for that amount of Cheddar, they would have spent 5 quid on a Radiator Card…  :)
