Prices of radios and other dealer fit accessories

Does anyone have a brochure/s?

Hi

I've been trying to look for a dealer accessories price list for a long time now to try and work out how much the dealer-fit radio in my car would have been.

It's a Panasonic CQ 383EE, but I know Blaupunkts were fitted at the time too.

If anyone has any info on what radios were available and fitted (or even better any scans/physical brochures I could buy) I'd be grateful.

The radio is the only option my car has, and I don't have the original invoice so can't work out original purchase price.

Also what else was available at the time as a dealer accessory? I'm guessing maybe a tow hook and roof bars? Anything else of interest?

Thanks in advance!

My invoice for '87 cabrio show £400 for fitting central locking and electric windows. I would guess @£1000 today?

Look for adverts in period car mags for radio £

(you need to tell us what date your car is, theres 17  years from '74 to '91 with 2 or 3 bouts of £ inflation mixed in)

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Then there is the different versions of radios, as in am/fm non stereo, am/fm stereo, am/fm/cassette stereo, and the Aktive system with cassette/cd changer in the trunk… If I recall correctly, the am/fm non-stereo was standard on my 81 LS, the stereo version was @ 300, the Cassette was @ 450 when purchasing it new. in 1980. Which I thought was obscene as the diesel engine was a 500 dollar option, that immediately took 500 dollars off the base resale the moment I drove it off the lot…Then 6 months later they were giving the Diesel option away for 0 dollars…… so all in all I lost a grand buying it early….. :)

Which is probably why I drove the thing for 20 years to get my monies worth out of it.  :) .

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks guys.

Sorry I should have added year!

My car was registered in March 1983.

And it's an AM/FM with cassette and stereo. Quite high spec by the looks of it compared to others I've seen.

It had no other options fitted.

Good idea re looking in period magazines too 👍 Thanks

Ideally I'd like to find a proper dealer accessories brochure - does anyone remember them?

I've got some Caddy  brochures, including the Caddy Sport, a commercial vehicle price list from 1986 (4 speed petrol Caddy £5103.70, Golf van £5923.65) however mine was £4501.91 on the road so a bit of a bargain…

A GTi engineering 1800 CZE engine conversion cost £1450 back in May 1986 as well (unfortunately I can't find a receipt to say that's been done though   ) and 13 inch BBS alloys were £67.54 !

Is there a thread for old brochures and the like? If so I'll scan them in and get them on here, if not perhaps we should start one ?

Great idea. I have some brochures I can scan in too so would be happy to do that if one of the mods want to create a specific section?

Scans like this for example, but all Mk1 related, would be awesome:
