Mk1 Tyres for 14" Pslots

Post

Hello all,

Quick question, can anyone recommend current available tyres for the standard Mk1 14" Pirelli wheels?
I've always tried to run Michelin Pilot Sport tyres but they don't seem to be available (their website only recommends an Energy Saver Tyre)

Cheers

Dave

there are not many companies that do a decent Tyre for a 14" wheel, best ones i have used are toyo proxy tr1

am having issues finding a 14" tyre to fit a 10.5" wide wheel.

Thanks for the reply, I'll take a look at them.
Anyone else running standard 185/60/R14 tyres and can recommend?
Also alloy wheel refurb recommendations. I've got 10 wheels to refurb all single piece 14" wheels.
Cheers

My are 15's but if you can find Dunlop SP Fast Response (blue) I'd strongly recommend them.

Wet or dry they do stick.
I'm on my second set for the Mk1 only because the first set were old and warn back in 2012.
I going to fit them next year to my Mk6 TSI, DSG 7speed because they are that good! 👍🏼

I've finally managed to find something similar, a "Dunlop Sport BluResponse" Performance Road Tyre.

Does that sound like the same thing to you?

They actually have a lot of options on there for 14" for both performance road tyres and track day tyres as well as road legal track day tyres in 185/60/R14

The filter seems quite good so you may be able to find a 10.5" wide rim option.

I've been very pleased with Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance on my daily drive Mk1 Golf cabriolet, nice quiet tyre with plenty of grip.

Yep they are the same as mine.
I just suppose it comes down to personal preference but they tick all the boxes for my driving style and I do have a Cabrio so as often as possible I drive with the top down on winding country roads.

Living in Austria as I do I've been up over and down mountain roads. While I still happy with them at 100mph on an autobahn if on the odd occasion I need to go that fast.

But it's your call at the end of the day my friend! 😉 👍🏼

Thank You Golf Cabrio and mark1gls,

Really appreciate your help!  Just need to get a set of wheels refurbed and will then get some new tyres and post on here how the wheel refurb went and what the new tyres opted for are like.

May take a few weeks

I'm going to do a trackday in the first week of December so wondering if anyone has a suggestion of what to use for that too?.  Potential to be cold and wet but also would want to use them next year in the summer too so…
R888 are very popular but questionable in cold/wet.  Nankang Ns2 currently appear to be  a better bet for all round weather.
Does anyone on here run trackday tyres in 185/60/R14?

Or a suggestion of what may be both good for all year round and also track days?  Do the above still figure with the added trackday dimension?

I have 10 rims so could potentially run a dedicated set of road legal trackday tyres and also year round sporty tyres.

Thoughts?
