MK1 GTD RHD - has anyone got information on these?

I'm trying to find information about the Mk1 GTD.

I know they exist as there is a mention of them on the forum and I have spoken to a Polish lad who had a LHD  '83 before it was T- Boned into an early grave (https://www.donedeal.ie/alloyswheels-for-sale/baby-g-60-s/14151083).

Can anyone on the forum point to a site where I can get more info on them or to a member who has / had one?

Hi James, I might be wrong… but thought the GTD (turbo)  was only available for a couple of years being 1990-91 and in the MK2 Golf.
It would fit into a Mk1 and be brilliant I am sure as-I have a Mk2 Gtd and its lovely.

Am with you on mk2 gtd's super cars and yes vw did make a mk1 gtd as spoke to a lad called Noddy in Cork who brought a 1.6 genuine gtd with him from europe

Check out the link i posted from done deal.  He told me it was factory and the forum also talks of them!

Stanleys in castledermot in Kildare who are a independent vw garage have a mk1 gtd in rhd. It was a special order and registered as a late eighties plate.

I called Stanley's before lunch and asked about the Mk1 but he said he had none in stock.

I spoke to the father there a few years and he has it. It is one of there own private cars. They bought it as a special order at the time. I would think you would have to call in rather than phone to put a face to your inquiry.
