June 6th Auction

Smurfing the net and spotted these. Not sure given the lockdown and economic uncertainly that the hammer prices will give an idea of what the MK1 market would be like in normal times,

Nice 'rocco GTi. If it was a Golf it would be x4 the estimate;

Restored Cabrio GTi, not sure about how they've restored to seats and I'd have painted the sill strengthners black but £4500 est looks reasonable if you like white.

Later carb Cabrio, no V5 and been molested over the years (de-clippered?, 3rd party alloys, single grill) not in description but not MOT'd for 5 years and 135k miles, think £1500-£2000 est a bit optimistic?

or a £7000 non injection XR3, these Fords make Golfs look cheap

Love the 'Rocco, especially with the brown interior  :thumbs:

It's very white isn't it? As you, say painting the sills helps them disappear a bit more

Think you're right about being de-clippered. Looks nice though, I think I'd rather have it than the white one.

That XR3  O_o   :o  I remember these when they were £300 bangers that no one wanted cos you could get an XR3i for a couple of quid more. Wow. I must be getting old :P

VW must not have believed their luck when the 'hot' version of the new super-duper front wheel drive Escort turned up with a 1.6 carb engine.

Shame about the seats in the All white model really.
If they had restored them with the original material, same as the door cards or even left them it would probably be worth a bit more.

Aquafresh springs to mind though!!

I love the chocolate hobnob Rocco though and looks like a bargain

H and H had an auction this week, could only spot watercooled VW. A 1990 carb Scirocco made a solid £5k
Lot 324 - 1990 Volkswagen Scirocco GT

A 1990 Ltd Ed Escort XR3i Cabrio with leather (similar to Golf Rivage?) went for £6,300

Another Escort Cabrio looks like it failed to clear the £5k estimate

And the results are in;

Scirocco made £3,763
White GTI Cabrio £5,913, @£1,500 over ets
Molested motless high miles 90 Clipper a surprising £2,473
XR3 £10,213, £3k over est. Wished I'd got into Fords not VWs

I thought so too, even at @£1200 over est. I think some people end up with a Cabrio due to better availability and lower £ than a GTi hatch when cars like this scirocco are around.
