Key blank from VW Heritage, anyone had one cut?

Post

I bought a genuine blank AH profile key from VWH and went to get it cut yesterday. I struggled to find anyone that wanted to touch it and the one guy that would touch it goosed it. He said the metal was very thin and it chewed too much off and that the key wouldn't have lasted very long anyway. I'm not slating the guy and he refunded me the cost of the blank so I can't complain anyway but I don't want to order another blank if the quality isn't great.
Just wondering has anyone else had one of these keys and where did they get it cut? Is there anyone in or around Wiltshire who can recommend a locksmith that can cut me a key?
Thanks.

Matt I have a VW blank you can have, it's not new probably more than 10-15 years old.
I did get my Daughters VW beetle key done in Warminster about 10 years ago no probs but he has retired and his son does it now haven't used him, I can ask him.

I am in work this afternoon then off to Salisbury and back later and in again tomorrow morning.

You can ring or text on 07799 366344 I can put key through your door if you give me your address, that is if you want to give me it :PSteve

I personally think the guy cutting your key was an "idiot", I had a blank cut by a novice, and she cut it wrong where it only worked one way not both.

So I bought another and had it cut at another hardware store and it works just fine…..

Don't blame the blank, blame the ID-10-t that was trying to cut it.  Oh, and remove the original from your ring it helps the cutter align it correctly.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Briano1234  I think you are right about the person cutting the key, I think he set it in the jig wrong! I just need to find someone who will do it!

SPGTI   Thanks for the kind offer, I'll take you up on it if the offer still stands. I'll send you a text tomorrow.

I had one cut when I restored the GTI, I used the lock code number (?) to get the correct profile….. but then it wouldn't work as the key was brand new but the lock was old and worn so I had to round  off the lumps and bumps in the key to get it to work.
