fitting mk2 scirocco seats

Post

While I am still undecided if I want to sell my mk1 I've decided to push on with making it more comfortable for me to drive. atm I keep hitting my head and look silly driving it being 6foot 4 so managed to get my hands on some mk2 sirocco seats so I can swap the bases.

ive managed to get the base to fit the mk1 with a little bit of swearing and patience, but despite my looking I haven't found a clear guide on actually swapping the bases (foam and fabric) over onto the need for  base. shame really as now its almost the perfect height for me to drive comfortably!

cheers

the scirocco frames are a little different to mk1 so you might find the foams and such dont swap over so well. but its relatively straight forwartd pop the palstic trims off either side at the corners, then release a circlip either side where it pivots and the backrest comes off.

flip the bases upside down there are some clips and pegs plus a coupel wires to release, and you have to undo the screws holdign the plastic lock pegs in either side then the fabric and foam comes right off

Thanks for the head up. All done now, wasn't as daunting as I thought it would be. Only thong that threw me was the extra bolster bars on the original seat, not wanting to cut up a original base spent some time bending some 8mm bar to match and welded them on and put the seat back together. Todays task is putting the seat back together and putting it back into the golf!

Well having the seat slightly lower has improved my driving experience ten fold. No longer hitting my head on every little bump!

On the later Cabriolets there was a optional Butt adjuster, for the sport seats, that allows the back of the seat bottom to lower about 2 inches.  On the later Wolfsburg Cabriolets it was on both front seats, whereas the classic  and best lines only had it on the drivers seat.  I don't know if it was standard for both on the Aigner, or Special editions.

It makes the driving of the cabby by my 6'5" son more enjoyable, and when raised fully (that is the rear of the bottom ) more better for my 5'3" daughter to drive.

I know that on my 90 I had it on the drivers side only, my 92 wolfsburg had both, but my 93 only has it on the drivers side…

in europe the (butt) height adjustable seats are pretty much standard for all mk1/2 golf, except for the very low spec ones. Over here the cabrio is a reasonably 'high' spec so its very rare to see them without

just to add to this, if you need lower seats and have post-84 cabrio or mk2 pre-90 seats but want to keep the oem fabric you can use mk2/mk2f polo driver side height adjust seat base frame. its the same shape but sits lower :)

for sport seats you need the GT/G40 ones, for the flat ones you can use the poverty spec frame.

the passenger side fixed height frame dont fit the rails as the legs are the wrong angle, you can bend them up but not worth the hassle  just for the passenger side. Though it is funny to watch them fall into the extra low seats

Reminds me of a Business that I used to travel too and they installed the Toilets, then poured the concrete floor.
The Toilets were about 3 inches lower than normal.

(The owners of the business where about 4 foot tall, and claimed they usually had to climb up to the toilets….) So they spec'ed the building plans for lower toilets, and that was the cheapest out.).

Thanks for the re-rememory……
