Driving position / short shifter?

Post

Random question guys: does anyone else have to over stretch for their gear stick? Mainly selecting 1st 3rd and 5th? Over a long drive I end up getting achey (getting old too). Any one used a short shift kit to make the throw shorter or used a gear stick extender? To bring the gear stick up slightly?

Thanks in advance… (it might just be me!)

I have the same problem, I've fitted a short shift which has improved it, but I still end up having to lean forward a little. I'm thinking of trying a mk2 Scirocco gear stick as I think they are slightly angled back and are a direct fit, but could be wrong as I've not tried it yet!

I used the missinglinkz short shifter kit and weighted billet.  Eazy addition, and firmer feel.
I didn't have to over stretch to find the gears.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

I thought I'd got something wrong when I drove mine again after 20 odd years. I was thinking "I don't remember having to move this much to reach the gear stick!" In modern cars the stick is just sooo much closer. I've a short shift on mine, it makes a bit of differnce, but not much.

I did wonder if there was a  raked gear stick. I might have to look into the Mk2 Scirocco one mentioned above!

My rebuild thread I will try and keep up to date: here
