Different sills on late cabbys?

I have removed the bumpers, arches and sill trims all going well but I have since noticed that there seems to be a lower section to the sills…a tin top has a sill that comes from under the door down to the floor edge easy but it seems that a cabby has about an extra 2" box section before the floor edge. I undrstand that this is probably top add structural reinforcement having removed the roof but is the floor actually lower ?
I can make the sills smooth to mimic the tin top look but if the floor is alredy lower ( i.e the distance between the bottom of the door to the floor is greater ) when I lower the car to the desired hight ill be dragging my ass down the road which is not my plan plus its obvious what i've done and that it's a late car with the trim and bumpers removed which is less than I'm looking for.
If anyone has any prior knowledge I would be very grateful for some clarity.
cheers J
