The fact it's had a new exquast is a good sign.

How is that number plate legal…..

I've not seen one with the right CC roof before, they did well looking after that.

The "original snow flake wheels" are wrong….. they would be white not black…

Apart from the wheels which are there to be fair but need a refurbish.

Drivers seat bolster split and needs replacing which may be very difficult because of the 'cc'  logo.

There's no mention of mileage anywhere that I could find.
But more concerning to me is its had 10 previous owners.
In just over 30 years seems like a lot to me so I would expect to find its had a hard life although from the photos it does look like it.

It's currently in a coastal area so if I went to look at (which would be mandatory given what I've said) I'd be having an extremely close look at it signs of repair due to rust.

But if it's all up together and honest and you could get it on the cheap not a bad buy because although I never liked it and even sold 3 you don't see them that often. ;)

it is interesting to see the headlining in the roof original   i thought there was a chrome grille trim on the CC? 115k miles on the clock… front spoiler not on there. or is it me..? Also the gear knob doesn't  quite look the original… as for the owners there are tintops/cabbys for sale & have been for sale with 10+ previous owners.
As for the number plate - i got stung twice by the law £60 each time, for having 1 gap even with the correct font!!!!! there's quite a few about with numbers/letters mixed yet i wonder how they get away with it… O_o more conscious of it because i got busted i suppose

Deandubya how ya doin mate! :)

Dean I wasn't suggesting for one minute that 10 owners wasn't possible, maybe I should have worded it differently my friend.

10 owners just says to me pay closer attention to see if it's had a haircut. And 10 owners have had 10 opportunities to glue it together with nothing more than Evo Stick.

That's not to say a 1 owner car is much different but in my experience it will be easier to spot.

I did forget the number plate but only a couple of days ago I was watching one of the 'Motorway Cops' programs when they discussed this same issue believe it or not.

Of course there are a number of reasons but the biggest is the ANPR System (Automatic Number Plate Recognition).

The program was recorded in 2016 so fairly recent.
They also mentioned that there are over 1,000,000 vehicles on the roads in Britain that are on 'cloned plates' so the ANPR is a massive bonus providing the plate appears normal and not distorted in some way. Like text placing, size, font, font style etc..

The criminals naturally try to make the cloned ones look perfectly normal even dealer name etc.. at the bottom of the plate. ;)

Unless it is being pulled by 3 reindeer, and a fat jolly old elf is driving it with a lit and decorated Tree in the rear seat, it isn't a "Christmas Cabriolet"…. another year end sales event wholey thought up by marketing….for those "Daddy's Little Girls need a New car under the tree."  lololololololololol ;)

Personally I wouldn't touch a vehicle with 10 previous owners, not including the 11th which will be added as soon as the new owners name is on the V5.

My limit is 6 previous regardless of how old the car is. Its usually a sign that it has either a major fault that can not be corrected e.g chassis out of line or that it has been owned by several owners that are not mechanically competent so have sold the vehicle on

There are still lots of early cabbies available and for the sake of it being a special edition (imho not a very nice one) I'd rather have a "normal" one that has been owned and looked after more consistently by fewer owners

1985 GTI cabriolet black edition (42k miles)

Agree that less owners the better but sporty and convertible cars often have lots of owners as people desire them.

They get them, run them for a while to get the thing out of their system and then get rid as;

they are compromised as a daily driver, noisy, cramped, no boot space, thirsty etc (not necessarily MK1s GTi's / Cabrios !)
they are sporty and expensive to run, a big bill arrives.
winter comes and cabrios never actually get used with the top down.

Few owners and low mileage is not all is cracked up to be. Lack of use does cars no good, I'd prefer higher mileage if there is evidence of servicing and running repairs.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

I agree but there is a happy medium and 11 owners isn't it.

Generally very low mileage cars that suddenly start being driven regularly need new head gaskets quite soon but I'd rather take my chances on a new head price

Obviously just my personal preference and I am aware of vehicles out there with 8+ owners with no issues at all.

Equally in contrast to that train of thought, my uncle knobhead always purchased his vehicles brand new and treated them badly from day one so it all comes down to the "type" of owners its had

Eleven owners in 30 years isn't much.

Think that most cars don't get kept for more than 3 years these days. Even with one owner keeping it 7 years there will always be a couple of bought on a whim and sell after a year.

Mileage is the other joke. A car with sub-70k miles will have hardy been used.

But better to have a reasonable, higher mileage car which has been used by a few owners.
