Can someone confirm the correct fuel filter for me

It’s s nightmare as there’s a mix up with these filters.

When you order them from the motor factors etc they come with the fuel flow direction the opposite way round.

The only one I found correct is the MAHLE KL5.  Just order one of these.

I ordered a KL5 and every supplier sent their cross reffed alternative which was back to front.

Having said that lol just looked at a pic of the KL5 and the flow is reversed on it compared to yours.

I have a new spare filter so will check the flow direction on it.

Yes it’s odd on mine it’s back to front.
So only the KL5 fits on mine.
Also I think the union bolts are different thread sizes.
You should be able to order one off the part number on your existing.

The new spare one that doesn’t fit mine is on the far right of the piccy.
It’s going begging if you need it.

I have had a couple of filters on mine from euro car parts and just fit in the direction of the arrow. Not had any issues

I thought there was a difference in that the fuel must flow in the direction of the arrow.
It’s just weird how these are either the wrong way round or a different diameter.

And yet the Mann filter on the left of the pic was originally fitted to the car when I got it.

Only when jellybelly serviced it did he actually fit the correct filter.

My car is a 1991 and has the smaller filter.

I thought these were different thread sizes either end so could only go one way?

Cars around 1984 ish onwards should have the bigger fuel filter, I guess at some point someone has fitted the smaller filter, you can change back to the bigger filter but you will need to change the clamp which holds it in place.

I think you are right, 2 different size banjo bolts used for the filter..

you can see mine fitted to a 1988 car in the bottom of this thread..

The bigger filter is cheaper and easier to find.

Which filter do you mean, Fuel or oil filter?

You will need to measure your fuel filter just be be sure as I've the later bigger filter fitted to my car.

Oil filter is the same for all water cooled VWs.
