Will mk1 scirocco storm seats fit ?

Post

Hi guys has anyone fitted mk1 Rocco storm seats in a mk1? I'm currently cleaning and treating them they as needed some tlc!. I will be fitting them in the next few days!

I have searched for info and found they will sit lower! And the rear seats will need some work! And found misleading info on the centre rail,Like its to wide. And that the slide adjuster is on the wrong side!
 Any help would great.😜

Cannot offer any actual advice as ive never done it , but it used to be a popular conversion so assume its not too difficult.

I have a set of mk1 'rocco seats that I tried to fit to my 93 cabby.

I found that the centre rail is too small to fit. It's not 'high' enough if that makes sense. If you measure the height of the centre rail on a golf seats it's bigger. This means that it won't fit into the centre runner on the cross member.

It could be cut off and the centre runner from a golf seat welded in place.

The adjustment; fore and aft; is also on the wrong side, but that just needs unscrewing and a small tab welding in.

Probably……….

I must admit i didn't try very hard to make them fit. Must have another look actually

Haha multi post! 😂Thanks for your reply!

My golf is a 82 tintop. I've read that later mk1 cabbys have the arms on other side like mk2s!

Il just have to see what happens! With the rail! 😀

I tried the front seats out and the centre rail is not tall enough 😭.
And the adjuster arms will need correcting.
I've bought two mk1 golf seat bases, I will attempt to cut the rails out and weld them to the Rocco seats! And move the arm to the correct sides. Hopefully will have that done very soon.

Thanks for your helpful info guys.

Hi Beardy, I know this is a 6 year old thread, but did you attempt the cut and weld in the end?

I'm in the same position with a mk1 scirocco base that I want to use in my mk1 tin top. I thought it was a simple swap until I just saw this thread!!

Wanted to see how feasible it is before I start.
Cheers

I have mk1 scirocco storm seats in my mk1 hatch but I put them in years ago so can't remember if anything had to be done to fit them

Mk1 Scirocco seats are lower than the Golf as the roof line is lower, when I drive my Mk1 Scirocco you lie in the car and in the Golf it feels like you sit on in.

Cheers. Yeah I'm hoping it'll work so i get a bit more headroom. I'm 6'4" and it's a sunroof model so has a lower Headliner too.

I've got a Scirocco seat base in mine, don't remember having to cut and weld anything on the frame itself but I did have to modify the handle that allows it to slide and lock in place. I was told mine were out of a mk1 Scirocco but could be a early mk2 Scirocco possibly? You'll get a fair bit more head room with them.

I did the mod years ago (being tall and a roll cage isn't a good mix).
You will need to move the slide handle to the other side.  Just two screws to undo at the front and seal it to the other side of the central rail.  You'll need to drill two holes for the screws, and spring.

Only jumping into this, as I've being trying to build enthusiasm to get mine back on the road since years ago!

Thanks. I'll try and tackle it over the weekend.  The one I got has the height adjustment lever on the side next to the handbrake.

Did you mate the scirocco  base to a mk1 golf gti seat back and use the golf cushion, bolters and fabric? That's my aim!

Yes and yes.  It was all interchangeable then.  If you're doing the cushions, you'll need a reasonably decent pair of wire cutters to cut the eleventy million metal rings off (make sure you get both halves, else it'll end up sticking in your thigh).  And a equally large amount of cable ties.

Not teaching you to suck eggs, but.

The side trims where the seat pivots have hidden riviots, you'll need to drive out to remove the trims successfully (the rivot either dissappears for ever, or lands in the hinge mechanism)
The hinge is some sort of spring clip you can fire off to another part of the shed, then just spread the back off.

If you haven't got new foam bolsters, swap the inner to outer from the passenger seats, i.e, put the worst on the inside edge and best nearest the door.

When you put the cover back on, try to cable tie every clip *loosely* then pull them all down in order and clip them off, rolling the clippy bit to the lowest part of the cushion.

If any of that makes sense, I need more GnT!

I need all the help I can get on this! Thanks for the info.

My golf seats were retrimed not long ago by the previous owner. So I think all bolsters etc are new.

Let's see how I get on. Hopefully won't be left without a seat for months after messing it up!

That arm on the left is the Butt Adjuster, on the later Wolfsburg cabbies, and such both sides have them and the lever is on the bottom outside of the seat in the front.
