Its dropping from full to min in the tank over the course of around 20miles
Most hoses have been changed, the water pump and thermostat housing are all good and I've recently replaced the matrix and coolant cap.
Only place I can see coolant is the odd drop coming off the bell housing but cant see where its coming from
Any ideas?

Bad Expansion tank, or lines to Radiator(matrix).
Bad Hard line by-pass to the heater valve including the heater valve…see my how to beef up new heater valves, or replace it with one from a 1983-84 Porsche 944 works better and more like the oem gate valve of the 70's and early 80 Golfs…..
Plastic flanges on water outlets.
Side of the heads outlet flange hose to the heater matrix.
Bad heater matrix.
If you are using the green AF it will fluoresce under UV light and shine so you can see where it may be coming from.
I had a leak that was hard to diagnose and until I shone a UV light inside the Radiator Shroud, that is when I found the Matrix leaking from the seam where the core met the sides….
The other one I had issues was a leaky WP that hit the pulley and was too fine a mist to show up with UV until it got really bad and I spotted the tell-tale drip on the Pulley. Really Stupid Design to place the weep hole on the top under the pulley instead of the bottom….

Just to check - you are measuring level before and after 20 miles run when coolant is cold?
Yep thats correct

I had a hair line crack in my expansion tank and when things got warm and under pressure the crack would open slightly and let the coolant out, it would track along the thicker bottom hose and drip onto the gear box.

Well the car is on axle stands (again) ready for me to change the sump out.
I think while its running and warming up in prep to drop the oil out I'm going to have to lay underneath it and keep an eye on things.
I changed the cap and sensor but not the tank itself so it could well be

Bad heater matrix.;.
Im wondering if when I swapped the matrix out I upset something further down the line on the same hoses
