What am I missing about this car?

This has just ended https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volkswagen-Golf-Mk1-Restoration-Project-VW-Golf-not-GTI-/232620599002

What am I missing - not sure I'd pay £100 for it.

Just because it sold on eBay for that much does not seem to mean it's sold, there seems to be a lot of time wasters on eBay.
You might find it re appears on eBay…

Also small block cars are probably rarer than Gtis as you don't seem to see as many about.

Not 1905…….

You know the old saying,  "There's one born every minute, and three ready to take him…. "

Or how about a pink caddy for £7800!

They resprayed everything in the engine bay including the heater blower and electrical cables
Looks like a quick blow over as even the rubbers on the top mounts are pink, how long till the rust starts to re appear?

Reminded me of Lucky McGee's Cabby.

Difference was that hers was stripped and professionally done.

Oh, and I forgot the tail pipe extender

Yes was a time that even nice non-GTI/Cabrios struggled to clear £1000, do agree though that there are 10 GTIs/Cabrios for every small block so they are rare.

On ebay seems that 2 similar cars, one running, road worthy and MOT'd and one a complete shed but "barn find" and the barn find find makes 2 or 3x as much. Perverse.

1983 Mars Red 1.8 Golf GTI
1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
